The Church of San Francisco de Asis was built in 1889 by the Bishop of Cordoba Sebastian Herrero y Espinosa de los Monteros. In this place there used to be a Franciscan convent, which before that had the old Hermitage of the Virgen de la Cabeza. The church has the Franciscan style and has three naves and two chapels, the Capilla del Sagrario made in 1965 and the Capilla de la Virgen del Carmen, which has a Neobaroque style and was constructed in 1914. The church has a statue of the Cristo de la Misericordia, of polychromed wood from the 17th century in the Baroque style and attributed to Alonso de Mena. Other sculptures are those of Jesus de la Rosa and the Virgen del Mayor Dolor, both of the Granada school. The dressing room of the Virgen de la Cabeza and the cupola have rich plaster decorations created by Cecilio Antonio Franco Roldan, from 1763. It shows the late Baroque style of Andalusia.
