The most famous, distinctive structure in Klodzko is the huge fortress that towers over the city, taking over the hill known earlier as Fortress Mount. It is definetely of the best preserved examples of fortification systems. Please take a tour with guide. It was really interesting.

one of the largest and most magnificent and most preserved buildings of this type in the entire region. It is very big. Its tour can be divided into two stages. Access to the walls and the lapidarium is free. You pay for a guide and for moving around the interior of the fortress.

We caught the train from Wroclaw, where we were staying(67zl.for two people return tickets). Just a 20min walk from the station, and looking up, you see the fortress, located high up above the town of Klodzko. A steep walk up to the entrance over uneven ground, take care as you need sturdy footwear. We just had the self guided tour, 12zl. per person. as the guided tours were spoken in Polish! To see everything you need to give yourself a good 3hrs, maybe more. There are placards that inform you of interesting happenings of the fortress(In four languages). Getting to the top of the fortress, can be hard work for the less mobile. When at the top, wow! the views are spectacular of the surrounding area overlooking the town below, it sure was well worth the walk up. Toilets are at hand, aswell as a cafe after entering the fortress. Well worth the visit, and worth the visit to the lovely town of Klodzko, where there are shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy. Make sure to take your camera, so you don't miss out on some great photo's.

On the way to Polanica Zdrój I decided to stop by to visit recomended place. I took underground option, but to be honest I was a bit dissapointed. If you like narrow, dark corridors go for it. But I can strongly recommend walls, especially with a guide. Beautiful ladscape, view and a lot of history.

This is a massive fortress with lots of history - both as a military facility and a detention facility. It is possible to stroll around without a guided tour (we did), which lets one appreciate how large this fortress is. The views from the ramparts are breathtaking.

I'm fan of castles and fortresses, and there aren't many like the one in Klodzko. A masterpiece of baroque military engineering, with sweeping views of "Klein Prag" and the mountains of Czech/Polish border and some dark WW2 history.

A town worth a visit with its long history and now being beautifully restored. The old fort dominates the town and when you visit it, you will not be disappointed with its history and fantastic views over the whole city. The cathedral is a must to visit and the richness of its interior is overwhelming.

This is a military object not built for the purpose of beautification of a hilltop. The best view is probably from the other side of the river (or from the air). In a way ugly, but functional as a stronghold over the surrounding territory. The fortifications have a long history, but the bulk of the construction was established under Prussian rule and dates from around 1760, though important innovations were brought about towards the end of the 1800s. I understood they are going to reconstruct the old lift in a tunnel connecting the fort with the town.

I did not visit the tunnel system, but walked around a newly made steel gangway midway the walls and the valley. I also did a hike following the eastside of the river northward until you reach an old railway bridge which you can cross and then follow a road that leads back to Klodzko behind the fort (hill). In all 5 km partly through nature. Even saw otters swimming in the river.

To visit the fortress you have to buy one of the guided tours (in Polish). There are 3 to choose from and I recommend the one during which you can visit the top part of the fortress and the underground corridors (18 PLN for a ticket for an adult). The whole tour takes about 2,5 hours. Make sure you take warm clothes and hiking boots for the underground part since the temperature is low and the corridors are slippery at times.
