Great place to learn a bit of Ww2 and post-war history. Our guide was really enthusiastic and funny. Enjoyed every minute of the 2-hour experience.
Remember to take something warmer to wear, as it's quite chilly undergrounds.

This is a tour on old German fortifications used later by Polish army as a command center for Baltic Sea West operations in Układ Warszawski. There are few tunnels connecting bunkers. 2 of them are open now for tourists others are under renovation as current owners start to open it for public in May 2014.
We can see there some history including recently declassified map of Układ Warszawski plans to invade West, but this is not the most important part - the tour guide is military like corporal making jokes and amuses adults and specially kids - my daughter was happy and laughing all the time :)

The tour is very entertaining, as specially the tour guide was dressed in military uniform and carried an old Russian machine gun PPSH 41. Well worth a visit.

I heard great things about this place and was eager to see it for myself. It was very interesting and unusual and quite an educational experience. However, several bits of information are crucial before you visit.
1. Plan on walking a lot. Once you park (or take a bus/train), you will need to walk about 20 minutes to get to the entrance. Then from the beginning of the tour, you will be walking most of the 2 hours.
2. You will be underground in very tight corridors. If you are claustrophobic at all, you probably should not go on this tour.
3. The tour guide was acting as a military guide in character for the entire tour. He speaks only in Polish and in such a way that even though I understand most Polish, I couldn't get anything out of his tour. He spoke very quickly and as a military commander. Even my Polish friends said they had a difficult time always understanding him.

We aimed at this from our vacation apartment in Swinoujscie. We had to drive south of the town, and ended up in a large car-queue due to only one ferry operating. We really looked forward to see this war-memorial, so the hope kept our mood high. So to our surprise this was closed today. Two cars was standing outside, and the music played, but no sign that any activities went on. We went forward to the tower, and return half an hour later, but still closed. Saw a lot of people wondering too. Hope to come back anyway.

As the only two non Polish attendants at the tour we got the short version in english between the stop, very much appreciated! The guide kept everyone interested, even the children which is admirable. He was probably funny as well because the group laughed a lot :)

Not being into military history, I tagged along my boyfriend - and am SO glad I did! This underground city - first a Nazi fortress, later a red army barack, eventually Polish army surpluss, and now a living museum - is soaked in history!
Had an amazing, knowledgeable guide that took us through time and place with loads of humor and fun. He seemed to genuinelly love his job, which made it even more fun and interesting to enjoy the experience.
For having bought it from the military half a year earlier to getting it into running standard and be able to host tourists in a large part of the museum - these guys deserve a round of applause!
(On a side note - these guys are doing upkeep and running of the living museum out of own pockets, so if anyone out there has a few EU-funds collecting dust, this place surely needs it!)
I had a blast!

Access is a little strange, you have to park next to railway crossing and walk into the forest. In the other side, there are lot of songs and you can not get lost. Visit itself is an experience, beginning with lining up, music, marching etc. Lasted for about two hours and unfortunately it was mainly in Polish language, which made our experience less educating.

How do I get there using public transportation from Hampton by Hilton hotel?
Written October 27, 2015
Hello Cindy!
Good question. We stayed at the Hampton by Hilton too, but we had a car... I know there is a bus going past the museum (you will have to get off at the main road and walk a bit into the forest, but there are signs leading the way), but I can't remember the number of the bus.
I would suggest you ask at the reception of the hotel which bus to take and go to the ferry, cross the pond and get on the bus from there (easiest way to go about it). Unless you want to rent a car?
(if you do rent a car, there's a bison enclosure not far from Swinoujscie, only accessible by car, which is well worth visiting!)
Good luck!
