Villa Foscarini Rossi, a short bus ride from Venice along the Brenta River, was home to one of the last doges of Venice and members of the family still live there. The villa, built between 1599 and 1692, also now houses a magnificent shoe museum with items dating back more than 300 years. But the real pleasure of the visit for me was the opportunity to see inside the buildings and wander in the beautiful and peaceful gardens. A very enjoyable and inexpensive half day out when you get tired of the crowds of tourists in the serene city.
