Near a small place Vicchio , Colle di Vespignano hamlet , 35 km north of Florence , is a farmhouse on a hill . Traditionally opinion is that this birthplace of Giotto , the famous painter and architect of the late Middle Ages , the Renaissance predecessors . Today there is a museum dedicated in his honor . First experiencing a stylish display with parts of his works . A couple of steps on the floor , there is a room , paint workshop for children . Next is a room with a huge projection of his meals on three walls , explanations in several languages ( choose your own). His work is the bell tower of the Bell Tower in Florence and a fresco in the church of Santa Maria Novella, just across from the main railway station . Pictures reflect the first signs of perspective , full of bright colors , the characters more human than saint . House jeizgrađena in traditional Tuscan style . Through the windows , the view stretches of rolling hills , vineyards , fruit trees and grass . After visiting the museum , we went to lunch at the so-called Sagginale . This Sunday's event is popular all over the Mugello (agricultural , livestock region north of Florence ) . It is held each time in a different place . We were in a tent with lots of benches . Locals preparing themselves and share local food . The food was delicious and very cheap. Otherwise , profits went to benefit the local football club .

This is an old country farmhouse which is likely to be the birthplace of Giotto.
It is kitted out with prints of some of his most iconic works, and there are books and postcards for sale. The helpful and enthusiastic attendant made it more interesting, although he only spoke Italian, and there is an interesting exhibit showing how the layers are added together in medieval paintings on panel.
4 euros is a lot to pay for so little, but the ticket entitles you to visit the Beato Angelico museum in Vicchio, which holds a collection of devotional art from the closed churches scattered in remote communities in the surrounding hills.

When you're in the countryside and have time it's a landmark ,so to speak, but really nothing special except that maybe it was Giotto's house.

The great Giotto, the monument of Italian art deserves better. The house of Giotto has nothing to do with art nor Giotto. The charme is missing and the opportunity to honor this child of Tuscany has been lost. The location is noble, overshadowed by a charming church, which often is locked. How do you worship in a wonderful place,if the doors are locked, and a priest is hardly seen? How do you honor Giotto,if the socalled birth place is so simple? The men and women trying to keep the flame alive apparently exist on a shoestring budget,or no budget at all.

But the video about the artist was fascinating and worth the trip alone. Nice panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside.

There is not a lot to see but I think the efforts of the local association must be commended, they keep the place alive with their workshops and the workshop for local kids. The video is really well designed and the ticket gives also access to the Fra Angelico sacred art museum in Vicchio, thus well worth the price

The place is nice to visit since Giotto is an important artist. However inside the house there was not much to see. The house has a nice garden.

If you ever find yourself in the area of Vicchio, take the detour to Casa di Giotto and enjoy the adventure in the Tuscan countryside. Casa Di Giotto is not a popular stop for tourists but appreciated by many Italians. The Casa charges a fee to peruse the artists interesting home and museum. Spring and summer is the best time to visit and appreciate the countryside and the little towns. Pack a lunch and a couple bottles of wine for a Tuscan picnic in the area and explore!

Don't expect any originals here, it is quite interesting, although none of it was in English, apart from the superb video. Which is the only reason for going!
Apart from the views, spectacular!

We were randomly exploring the area (actually hoping we were going to stumble on an open winery...but that aside), saw the sign and went inside. There was a visiting artist showing when we visited; it is a lovely venue for an art show. The slide show/presentation on Giotto told the story of his life and his art, it may have been a bit schmaltzy or simple for those that are familiar with the story: but it brought us up to speed!
