There is a tendency to get a bit churched out in Noto, given the amount, then start to dismiss some of them. We would have definitely overlooked Basilica del SS. Salvatore. We only ventured inside because the young woman at Palazzo Nicolaci said we should have a look, as the interior was very beautiful, she was right. It was definitely the favourite of the interiors we saw and wonderfully maintained. The very ordinary façade belies what waits inside.

The beautifully frescoed vault of the nave features “The Pentecost”, while above is the “Conversion of Paul on the way to Damascus”, below, “Three mysterious men visiting Abraham”. The frescoes are by Ermenegildo Martorana and stuccos by Giovanni Gianforma, their work started in 1794 and finished in 1797.

The basilica was built next to the Benedictine Nunnery, which was for women from wealthy families. Construction on the basilica started in 1767 and it was consecrated in 1802.

Be sure to see the interior of Basilica del SS. Salvatore, even if it the only church interior you see.

Over shadowed by it's near neighbour externally this church is far more impressive internally - rich in colour. This one closes at 14.00 hours until 19.00 hours. Well worth a visit.

Saw people looking down from the top as I was wandering through the streets below and said "I should do that!", and I'm sure glad I did. Impressive approach with lots of steps. Upon entry, you can look around but there was also a guide there waiting for an offering to allow access up to the choir, bell tower, and roof. Seemed to be the tallest vantage point around, and housed some impressive bells. The paint was all recently cleaned, so the appearance inside is bright.

It is a very clean place, and the residence are very helpful., and so is not very difficult as regards language as quite a few people understand English

Most of the major churches in Noto are clustered in the same area. It is easy to get church overload, but this is one you would not want to miss because its style is different from all the rest.

For 2 eur, you have access to the best view in Noto. There is also a small religious museum upstairs, but the highlight is really the view from the top.

We were looking forward to our visit to the Monastero after seeing photos of it but unfortunately it was closed for renovations when we were there in December. It was lovely from the outside but we would have liked to enjoy the interior.

When we visited this church, we had it all to ourselves. It seemed strange with the town busy, and people seeming to gather around the other churches, so I worried that it wasn't appreciated enough, but since it's the number two attraction in Noto, it obviously has its admirers. Count me in. The beautiful dark blues in the church interior were very different than other places I'd been. You can also go up to the bell tower and get a view of the sea (well, we saw the Olympic stadium and a big cemetery). In any case, it was lovely.

The church has a really nice and cosy atmosphere. You feel welcome when entering it. Please Consider it is not only a tourist attraction, it is a holy place. Please act and dress accordingly

It is a beautiful church, the interior is stunning. A Catholic Church at its best.
Another piece of great baroque architecture in Noto.
