Go to info centre and ask for guide. We toppled ours 5 euros to buy coffee even tho free. Absolutely fascinating cavern to see. Just can't imagine how people lived down there for 6 months!!!!

This is an underground path accessible via guided tour only. Oil mills were built underground for two reasons: reduce costs (being digging cheaper than building) and to keep the temperature under control (less than 20 degrees all-year-round). Very interesting.

This oil mill had been operating underground in a cavern for 500 years before ceasing production in 1930. That around 50 operators ran it with donkeys providing the power is hard to believe. There is room for 4 mills in these huge caverns. A very...More
