Just a 5 minute walk from the main road, you reach an enchanted place...they used to quarry bauxite there but it has been closed since the 1970s - I recommend wearing old shoes because the red dirt is very fine and sticks to your shoes, pigmenting them and ruining them. High heels are not recommended here as the terrain is very irregular

If you’re driving it’s barely 10 minutes from town, I walked along the paths by the sea, even better, maybe half an hour. There’s nothing to see apart from the lake and the coloured soil (see photo) but it’s enchanting, and bigger than the pictures suggest. Certainly popular, but there is a reason for that. And the walk was lovely too.

Nice to take a photo. Not too far from Otranto city centre by car. You should visit the lake, it has a interesting beauty. The red soil is attractive.

We arrived before 9am, there was nobody there at the parking, so we went, took pictures and left, the guy to pay the parking was just arriving. Honestly, this isn't worth paying for, it's just an abandoned mine, you spend a few minutes there to look at the nice variety of colours and that's about it.

This is a small place you can quickly visit but the variations of colours between de blue green water and the red earth around is a pleasure for the eyes.

It’s an old mine with blue green water and red clay dirt around it. Seriously do not waste your time....you have to pay to park and walk for 10 mins to see a flooded mine....there isn’t anything more than that. Trust me!

Ex cava di bauxite was a pleasant discovery.
Make sure to park your car in the private parking and from there you will have to walk 300 meters to the bauxite cave.
This place has actively used from the 40’s to the 70’s to extract bauxite. During the years the colors that we see today developed in this area.
You can walk up and down around on the red ground and observe the cave from altitude, watch out if you have small kids, they could get hurt by falling.
The green lake between the red ground and electric green trees look magical. The colors and the empty space make it look like an alien spot.

I mean, it's a nice looking flooded quarry. But I'd you've looked at the pictures already then...you've seen it. It's quite big, so theres some scale to it, but would not go out of your way to look at a big hole in the ground with water in it!

You also have to pay to park here. 3 Euros if I remember.
