Lovely town with a castle and a cathedral. It carries the authentic characters of southern Italy. It would be nice to do research of the brief history of Otranto during/before the visit (like the Martyrs who defended their faith).

The beach near to the centro storico was clean and the water was crystal clear.

Otranto appeared as one of the best surprises on our week long Puglia tour, as we didn't expect much of it.
The town is compact and very cute. Tiny winding streets hide numerous bars, restaurants and local artisan shops. A must see is the Cathedral with amazing floor mosaic.
DO NOT forget your swim suits. The beaches beneath the old town walls are literally postcard like - crystal clear turquoise sea in a shallow bay. We left ours in our rented car, but it wasn't hard for me to walk 20 min back to take them in order to have a swim.

It took a while to park and after parking it was a 10 minute walk to the main area along the Adriatic Sea. Otranto bustles with people from all over, but also many locals. I wasn't sure what I thought at first, but after meandering past the shops, restaurants the seafront, I was hooked. It's a great place for families, friends, couples or business meetings. There are some very sweet moments with friendly dogs, friendly people and little shops. Many restaurants have delicious seafood and other dishes.

Otranto is very cute! A medieval borgo surrounded by turquoise sea. We spent a week there, and we didn't tire of it, not a bit... There's so much to do! The beach, the walks, the ape tours, the boat tours, the castle... The great food!
Thank you for the great memories

I fell in love with Otranto! Clean and very well organised, it has a lot to offer for tourists. This town has an amazing number of restaurants and bars and the choice caters for all tastes. Quite a few places of interest to see including a castle (fortress) church and historical centre but what I enjoyed most were the small slleyways lined with shops and bars in each nook and cranny. Very tasteful and elegant places throughout the town

Lucky us when we decided to visit Otranto. The best city in the whole of Puglia (even better than Lecce). There is a castle overlooking the harbour and during the walk on its walls you can find small restaurants and bars where to have delicious food and drinks. The main square is a jewel. Visit Otranto...you will not regret it!!!

This historical and imposing venue is also worth a trip. Unfortunately the borgo antico, or old city, is overrun by tourist shops selling mainly junky tourist memorabilia. There are some notable exceptions. But overall a shame to cheapen such a beautiful place

Staying nearby so came to have a look round. It doesn't take more than about an hour, unless you spend time shopping or eating. Castle has good views, but you really need to be going in for the exhibition.
Walking round the walls gives you views out to see, and the inner streets are interesting.
Good bar in the square by the castle.

Quaint streets, the typical Pugliese things to see - the Cathedral, an Aragonese Castle, the protection walls, many churches. The streets around the Centro Storico have a bit too many stores with souvenirs, some carry interesting items if you have the time to browse. The mosaic in the Cathedral is very interesting with the combination of Christian, Pagan and Asian symbols, unusual sight. The colour of the sea outside the walls of the old town was spectacular!

Otranto is the classic middle sized town that has a bit of everything: a Romanesque cathedral with a floor reminiscent of a fat book of Grimm's fairy tales, an inner structure including powerful visuals and history, delightful shops into and out of which to pop, and potential fine dining all about. if there were such a category, I'd ratchet it up to a 4.5/5, but who's counting?

The antico borgo of Otranto is alternately relaxing and energetic. A couple of hours (more with a meal) is all that's necessary to get a good taste of its offerings. I'd suggest skipping this particular castle and do Gallipoli's instead which is much more interesting and includes enough exhibits and memorabilia for a small museum.
