About
“Apulia – La Finestra sul mare” was founded in Monopoli in August 2013, with the aim of offering the visitor a range of services to enjoy the gorgeous beauties of a land rich in History, Art, Culture, Traditions and Taste. A land that you can explore thanks to expert guides of the area, capable of revealing stories and emotions hidden behind a dry stone wall, an environment excavated in the rock, a painted wall, a picture, a tower or olive tree shaped by time. Evidences of a past rich in history and tradition, deeply rooted in the land of Puglia that has always been a “bridge” between East and West. We like to explore it from our “finestra sul mare” (window on the sea), offering our guests the opportunity to get an authentic experience! “Apulia – La Finestra sul mare” takes care of services for tourism with a lot of partners as the Aps Koine, but it takes care also of handicraft and Apulian typical products. In our shop, in the heart of Monopoli historical centre, you can find original handicraft creations and tasty typical products of our culinary tradition like extra virgin oil that comes from our centenary olive trees, wines of first selection, handmade pasta and more. All products are carefully selected by “Apulia – La Finestra sul mare”, a young company employing a young team desirous to increase our net of relationships to offer always the best to the visitors.

These wonderful ladies in this business are wonderful ambassadors for Monopoli and the Puglia region. Like many others, we happened on this place during daily stroll through the old city. Looking for authentic souvenirs we ended up stopping by everyday. We booked a tour with Antonella to see the caves and trullis. It was a truly wonderful day. We also booked a fishing trip, saw a pasta making demonstration, had souvenirs shipped home and had perfect eating recommendations. Their entrepreneurial spirit is inspiring. We wish them success and recommend that all visitors stop by for the merchandise, the tours, the local food and ceramics. A beautiful representation of the hospitality of Monopoli.

Wow, we visited Monopoli again this year and immediately decided to visit the wonderful Antonella and Gianni, to book 2 bike tours in our week’s holiday, after booking with them last year. They both remembered us and immediately made us feel welcome. We booked the Bike & Boat tour and also the Bike & Taste tour. We were a party of 4, 2 couples.

The Bike & Boat tour took us safely through the beautiful countryside of olive trees, enjoying the smells and sights of Puglia. We visited the Egnazia trail, beaches, troglodyte caves and churches showing us amazing frescos on the walls, hidden within private residences. We visited the archeological site at Egnazia and finally arrived at Savalletri to catch our boat to return to Monopoli. We stepped on board, riding the waves stopping along the way to enjoy some local snacks, focaccia and lovely local wine, then plunging into the sea for a relaxing refreshing swim. Arriving back to Monopoli where Gianni greeted us in the harbour and walking back to their pretty authentic shop to sample more local produce available to buy. Which of course we did!

The Bike & Taste tour, slightly more challenging but still manageable for our middle aged fitness levels! We caught a taxi pre arranged by Antonella and Gianni within the hills where they met us with the bikes, ready to go. Within a short distance we visited Maria on her farm, an amazing hard working woman, making her own cheese and bread, from her own cows. Luckily we were able to see her twin day old calves! She provided a wonderful tasting of her delicious products and of course we bought some cheese. A friendly, warm, welcoming lady despite the language barrier. Up and down a few hills, visiting an amazing church with incredible views. The following trail a long downhill ride through the 1000 year old olive trees until we reached a fortified farm, botanical gardens and finally reaching the Lapietra tomato farm, an innovation in farming growing without soil. The immense greenhouses with towering tomato vines, and yet again more local tasting of the delicious tomatoes. Mr Lapietra himself giving us a tour of the factory and generously giving us a punnet each of cherry tomatoes to take home. We cycled back towards Monopoli for a well earned beer and more local produce to sample at La Finestra sur Mare.

Antonella is fabulous, she speaks fluent English and even laughed at our jokes! Made us feel so comfortable, like we were best of friends. Her knowledge and passion is evident, she knows everything about the local history! Gianni her husband is just as lovely, conscientious and on hand with any bike problems! They will ride at your pace and accommodate any stops along the way keeping everyone together safely. Water is provided along with helmets and high vis jackets if required.

I can not recommend them enough. They are perfectly situated within the old town and nothing is too much trouble to ask. They made our holiday super special. Thank you so much Antonella and Gianni! X

We were a group of 7 friends and took the tour which started at 09:00H and lasted until almost 14:00H.
Gianni took care of the bike tour and Antonella was in charge for the cultural aspect.
Gianni took us through the wonderful Puglian scenery on mountain bikes, while Antonella didn't stop to amaze us with very interesting and thorough explanations about the subterranean churches, fortified farmhouses and a botanical garden. She is a passionate historian and succeeded to transfer this passion onto us. After the bike tour we were treated with a taste of local delicacies such as wine, liquor, olive oil and other local gastronomic discoveries. Highly recommended as an activity to discover Puglia.

We did the bike ride through the olive groves and farms. There was a group of 8 cyclists with Johnny leading and Antonella acting as tour guide at each stop. We both really loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Monopoli.

The cycle itself was a bit tough at times but mainly due to the heat (it was over 30 degrees at times when we were in Puglia). The places where we stopped were so interesting and Johnny and Antonella were very helpful and knowledgeable. The most impressive thing for us was getting to stop at the private farms to see inside the old underground village with olive presses and the underground churches which you simply cannot see other than on their tours.

In terms of practicalities, the bikes were in decent condition, we all had helmets and were given plenty of cold water and snacks. The tasting at the end was lovely and we didn’t feel at all pressured to buy anything - although we couldn’t resist the limoncello!

Overall, lots of fun and interesting sights, great value for money, and very highly recommended!

We took the first tour of 2017. Beautiful weather and an excellent guide in Antonella ensured this was a trip to remember. What do I remember most? Ancient olive groves, fields full of poppies and wild flowers. Would recommend this trip to anyone who can ride a bike!😊🚲

Claire,Tim, Simon and myself went on two bike trips with Antonella and Gianni. Claire and Tim went last year..
Antonella knew so much about the area and was so informative about everything. She was just so passionate, captivating and welcoming. It Just made both our trips so interesting. We cycled over 55km over the two trips.
We sampled delicious food and wine and she took us to family run businesses all of which were so fascinating. The cycling then boat trip was great fun with a dive in the sea with snorkelling was perfect and just about dodged the storm in the distance!!
These trips are a must and without a doubt made our holiday.
Do not hesitate to book up. We will definitely book again next time we come.
Thank you Antonella and Gianni xx

Great biking tour in the countryside of Monopoli. We did about 24km in the hot afternoon but it was no problem with plenty of water and interesting stops. The fantastic guides took us to places that are not open to the public including old fortified farms with underground churches and olive mills.
Thank you Antonella and Gianni - we will for sure come back for another tour

I highly recommend this bike tour through the Monopoli countryside. The thousand year old olive trees were amazing and the stops at the Masseria with the grotto church and other surprises were incredible and the guides were so informative. I learned a lot and had so much fun.. The tour exceeded my expectations and ended with a lovely tasting of Apulian products with the ability to purchase them. Truly a special experience!!

Could not recommend more! We had a fantastic tour guide who took us to the most beautiful Italian farms and provided so much great information about the history and culture of each place.

The tour guide ensured that all participants were enjoying the ride and stopped for various food and refreshment breaks throughout. The tour was topped off with a food, olive oil and wine tasting at the end. A great way to see Monopoli.
