About Megale Hellas Diving Center
Active since 2007 in Calabria, the service company for tourism and sport Megale Hellas, with attached Diving Center, operates in an area naturally predisposed to welcome those who love the sea, the nature and the variety of landscapes, which are home of archaeological vestiges and ancient traditions. Here, in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Magna Grecia territory – hence the choice of the name “Megale Hellas” – invites you to know the hidden secrets of the turquoise blue sea, which bathes wide sandy beaches along the Ionian Sea and vertiginous cliffs along the Tyrrhenian “Violet Coast”. The Megale Hellas Diving Center – Sea Point FIAS (Italian Federation of Underwater Activities) and Gold Center ISDA (International Scuba Diving Academy) – will guide you to the discovery of the uncontaminated sea of Calabria with its Diving School, well-organized to introduce you to the hidden wonders of the Ionian Sea, of the Tyrrhenian Sea and of the Strait of Messina. The structure, comfortable and well equipped, is located a few steps from the sea, on the Marina di Gioiosa Jonica promenade, in the heart of the so-called “Jasmines Coast”. It has a large reception, a multimedia classroom, a full deposit with equipment rentable, bath, hot shower and a wide laundry for washing equipment after dives. The Megale Hellas has also always been active in the practice and diffusion of safety at sea and beyond. We organize First Aid courses (BLS-D First Aid and Oxygen First Aid) and courses for Lifeguards. But Megale Hellas is not only this… It’s a structured center of tourist services for the discovery and knowledge of the province of Reggio Calabria territory. We are able to offer all-inclusive tourist services, for divers and not, which include, in addition to courses and scuba diving, guided tours, hiking, trekking and food and wine tours, to discover the natural, architectural and archaeological beauty of this area of Calabria, surrounded by two seas, dominated by the massif of the Aspromonte National Park and inhabited by people characterized by deep and generous hospitality.

We had a fantastic week diving with Megale Hellas on the best wrecks of the Ionian Coast and in the Strait of Messina! Roberta and Francesco are super friendly, know the diving spots perfectly and are highly competent diving guides which is very important when you do tek diving... And all that comes at a very fair price ! We'll go there again without a doubt !

On the day of the dive, my wife and I arrived at the scheduled time to do 2 dives. We are certified by padi in advanced and nitrox. Well, we left at 09:00 and got to the dive site at 11:00. A stone sand beach, very warm. The dive leaves the beach but the dive master simply does not help you at all. to carry a cylinder, a bag, to put on the vest or even help you out of the water. You are simply on your own. Other than that the diving itself was awful! Dirty sea bottom, practically zero life, zero coral, that is, zero interactivity. For the second dive, we went on an incredibly grittier beach yet. There were a couple of Germans with us with 2 children and the beach was full of shards of glass and trash. Worst sea bottom yet. There was even a car battery on the seabed. Literally a sea of rubbish. The worst of it all is that we returned only at 6:00 pm to the dive center where we still had to clean and store all the material. It is worth remembering that at any moment we receive any help, be it to assemble equipment, to dive, to disassemble or even to clean. It was the worst dive experience we had in all the countries we went through! I do not recommend !!!!

The Diving Centre is an outstanding attraction for both experienced divers and amateurs. We went with a 13-year-old who undertook his first experience of scuba-diving. He was absolutely delighted, and I was overwhelmed by the warmth, helpfulness and professionalism of the instructors - especially Roberta and Claudio: equally proficient in English and Italian. The seas around Calabria are full of fascinating features to explore, and I was especially impressed by the knowledge of, and care for, the precious natural environment, demonstrated by everyone we met. Megale Hellas also organises sky diving and trekking. I can't wait to go back.
