We enjoyed a day trip to Achill while staying in Westport, and spent a couple of hours exploring this beautiful site. Most of the buildings are stony ruins, but in places th furrows in th fi kids are still visible. The history is sad but...More

This has a lot of potential to become a great visit but as it currently stands its a waste of time. Needs some more effort to make it worthwhile

We walked up here today in beautiful sunshine. The Deserted Village is stretched across the hill and we enjoyed pretending and imagining what it was like for the people who lived here hundreds of years ago. If you decide to walk up through the remains...More

What an amazing place this is and much bigger than first looks . . Easy to get to and you can walk in and around the old stone buildings . .

So amazing it is indescribable. You just have to go there to experience it yourself. The best preserved famine village in Ireland. Walk along the main street and imagine the people living here/children playing on the street etc

A bit tricky to find but worth the drive. There is a sign that explains the history of the place. It's quite a large area - you can walk for miles looking at ruins in various states of age. Thought provoking and interesting.

Great views from the deserted village, fascinating to see how small the houses were and how well they have stood the test of time. It is hilly and you would need to have suitable footwear, ladies leave the heels at home, but a nice way...More

I am a history buff and my imagination ran wild speculating on life within the Deserted Village. If you decide to walk through the village I suggest you wear waterproof shoes. The village sits on a hill but there are many small streams and boggy...More

Hello Debra, when you stay at keel, it is well signposted. It´s easy to get there. Depending on the weather, bring wellies with you. Might get a bit muddy when it´s raining. Parking place (free) at the cemetery.
