We had a super morning. The exhibition was do interesting. We did not go up the rocks as we had our dog with us. We walked the A2 circular path which was well signposted and an easy walk. I would visit again when we are in Detmold again.

This was one of my favorite places to visit. The hike back to it is worth it. The view from on top of the rocks was amazing.

You can look around Externsteine for free, but to gain access up onto the rocks you have to pay; these can be purchased on site and a "combo" ticket can be purchased that can be used at Hermannsdenkmal. I'd suggest visiting here on a dry day as it is all outdoors. There are some nice woodlands/meadows to walk through and... More

Nice to see if you are in the area. I would not advice a big detour for going to see it. Entrance fee is €3, which i find a good price. Parking has a day tariff of €2.50.

Nice place to visit if you are in vicinity of Hermanndenkmal, use option of combo ticket for this place and monument. Kids were disappointed because souvenir coin machine was not working, so they are lacking another coins in their collection. Stairs are narrow, be patient, and be slim, because two ways traffic is challenging. Parking - 2,5 EUR. What else... More

Truly remarkable place to visit and the rock climb, the kids loved but not for people who don't like heights but lovely views and ideal place for a picnic!

Very interesting rock formations and carvings and people. We hit this as our last site of the day and it was a hike to get to the top. Make this one of your earlier stops of the day. Nice view from the top and very good religious carvings, but only one of the columns was open for tourists, the other... More

Stunning to look at and great woodland walks. The views are amazing. It would be easy to sit by the water for hours on a warm summers day.
