Nostalgia Trip
Oct 2019
Visited with three friends October 2019 - two of my travelling companions had served on Otus, one as a junior officer, the other as an SBS operator deployed off the boat in the 1980s. Neither of them had seen the boat since she was decommissioned in 1991 and had only recently found out that she was still afloat (albeith with a slight list to port...).

We had given the museum notice that we would be visiting and were greeted as old friends, even the owner came down to see us and we spent a good hour chatting with him about our experiences and what had made him decide to buy the boat and rescue her. Not a dry eye in the house once we had finished!

If you are going to visit, I would say that it would pay to do a bit of research first, not just about Otus herself, but about submarines in general - the experience is likely to be a bit "dry" if you don't know a little about how they operate or what conditions were like for the crew, as there is precious little in the way of interactivity or interpretation for those not in the know.

Thanks to the owner and museum staff for making us so welcome and taking the time to chat with us.

Lovely harbour area
Jul 2019 • Family
Wanted to visit, but the museum was already closed, we have not considered that they close so early. It is advisable to check the closing time. But we had a nice walk in the harbour area. The submarine was ordinary outside, but we have visited some submarined previously.

I have never been inside the submarine before and looking at the submarine from outside really does not give a real picture. For me it was unique exceptional experience and I enjoyed every meter walking inside. As I am quite tall I admired the mariner tall like me - how difficult it must have been for them to move fast inside if needed. Infinite number of technical subjects, description of every place.... I was thinking about how "special" kind of men ( or even women ?) with very strong psychic resistence must be those who decide to make their service in such low and narrow space. Very worth seeing it also for young boys.

Das Boot experience
Apr 2019
Visited the U-boat museum in Sassnitz, never been inside one so this gave a pretty nice impression on live in a submarine, family ticket only 18 EUR so very price-worthy

not good for claustrophobics.

We visited out of curiosity and you have to respect the guys who sale in these things. A battery hen laying eggs probably has more space than they do. The interior is still in pretty good condition and it was great that there was only one other person on board when we visited. Worth a visit for sure and not expensive.

Interesting curiousity, if you are curious

We were excited at the prospect of visiting a U-Boat, only to discover this is a privately owned British submarine that has been moored here for the purposes of allowing guests to visit a submarine. It's really a walk through yourself kind of experience. There are a handful of signs, and really no one inside the submarine to ask questions of. It is NOT a German U-Boat (title is a bit misleading). Best enjoyed if you have not toured a submarine before and want that experience, but if you have done them before, then this one is really nothing special, and certainly not a German U-Boat.

Interesting and historical place to see

You can go into the submarine and see how crowded it is. One can imagine the horror when they drop down the sink bombs above it. Maybe never see heaven again.
But when they were a striking lion, the mood is different.
Cat and rat play.

The museum on the other side of the street I did not think was so special to see. It was a memorial monument. Imagine, admittedly, but the exhibition was clear in my opinion.
But definitely you should visit it.

Brilliant

I spent a good hour in here looking around every bit of the sub. I'm on the merchant navy myself so found it even more appealing. You don't have any set time limit so you don't feel rushed.
I got a great feel for how life must have been onboard.
Entry price was good as well as the little gift shop. Nothing was overpriced. My only issue was the signs were only in Germany. It's a tourist attraction so feel some of the signs and information needs to be translated into more languages.
Great fun.

Cool piece of history

I have a 5 year old son, who is interested in submarines, shares and other sea creatures. The sub was great and really makes you wonder how so many sailors could live in there... Very cool!

A rare opportunity
Jul 2016 • Couples
If you're at least a little interested in how the life in a submarine may have looked like, this is a great opportunity to find out. It is quite special to squeeze through the circular openings from one section to another and to imagine you're sleeping on one of those smallish bunks. On the whole less claustrophobic than I expected, though. There were not so many people so there was quite a lot of room to see everything - might be unpleasantly crammed with more people but on the other hand you would get an authentic feeling of what it must have been like with all the staff! Not sure if they offer individual guided tours but it would be great, as the brief signs leave many things unexplained.
