Stöcklewaldturm is located between Furtwangen, St Georgen and Schönwald, in the forest. The tower rises above the trees, and gives you a wide view over the surrounding area, mostly forest. Miles and miles of forested ridges, with some patches of open land in between. You can also spot some of the surrounding villages. It costs 1 Euro to mount the tower, and it is worth paying that. There is a mountain Gasthof attached to the tower, with a somewhat limited, but welcome, selection of food. There are benches and tables outside if you prefer to have your lunch out of doors. It seems to be popular with walkers and cyclists. There is actually a road so that you can drive there also. It's an obvious goal for walks. For example from Schönwald, about 7 km away. There are several ways to walk to Schönwald, making a nice roundtrip possible. The walk past neighbouring Hubertuskapelle and the Gutach source, through the Gutach valley, to Schönwald is lovely, through meadows, and past some typical Schwarzwald farms.
