- MichaelWKirchheimbolanden, Germany868 contributionsVery nice colors - but smaller than thoughtThe blue pot is really beautiful, the colors are enchanting. It is also very nicely surrounded by nature. But: It is significantly smaller than you might think - and there have been significantly more tourists than expected. However, it will soon be closed for renovations. Tip: You can park very well in the street further up the roadside (get short-term parking tickets at the vending machine).Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 29, 2024
- Marie_CSMAMannheim, Germany228 contributionsA fascinating natural phenomenonA fascinating natural phenomenon that you should have seen when traveling in the Swabian Alb. The bright color is created by the white karst rock of a cave entrance at the bottom of the lake. Unfortunately but also very crowded, so it is difficult to enjoy the magic of the lake in peace.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten August 31, 2024
- Belinda H1 contributionBlue pot is the perfect placeThe Blue Pot is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend walk. The fresh, clear air and beautiful nature make it an ideal destination for a trip. It is particularly nice that you can walk right next to the monastery courtyard – a perfect combination of nature and culture. The tour around the blue pot itself is simply picturesque, with the clear water shimmering in all sorts of shades of blue and green. If you want to enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings and the fresh air, you will get your money's worth here. A nice place to take a breath and switch off!Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 31, 2025

During our short vacation in Blaubeuren we were here at the Blautopf almost every day. The colors are really beautiful. You can walk around it and find out where the colors are most intense. We like to take photos and also took photos of the reflections of the church tower in the Blautopf. The information about the kilometer-long cave system is very interesting; the film about it is available in the prehistoric museum. The Blautopf is a beautiful destination, there is also a lot to see in Blaubeuren, so it is very suitable for a short trip.

We drove out to here from Ulm one Sunday morning recently. We found it easy to find somewhere to park for free close to a park and we walked up to the Blautopf which was easy enough to find in this pretty little town.
To be honest the pool itself was relatively small. We were grateful that on that morning the weather was rather mixed and therefore there weren't so many visitors in attendance. So, it was rather pleasant to stroll slowly around the pool and take the obligatory photographs of the lovely blue water.
Having done that (it didn't take long) we decided to walk through the town and follow one of the long walking trails up into the woody hills, firstly in search of an old castle ruin Ruine Günzelburg with lovely views down into the valley, then a formation of rocks known as the Küssende Sau (kissing pig) before trekking on to the Brillenhöhle - caves which were unfortunately closed.
By the time we got back down into the town we had clocked up well over 16km!!

I first time heard about this place from my colleague coming from this area several years ago. Since that time it was on my bucket list but I never thought it was worth a long driving. Being in the area this summer I decided to finally visit it.
I was amazed. It is little and crowded and it doesn´t offer too many opportunities for taking pictures in fact but just standing there and admiring the nature wonder was an unforgettable experience.

Even with Covid 19 there were plenty of people visiting the beautiful spring. There was some information in German about the cave system and divers exploring the cave. We explored the Abbey area and then hiked 1 km hike up to Blaufelsen which has a great view of the town. People were mountain climbing and biking. You can hike from there along the ridge to Rusenschloss Ruin.
I would suggest combining this with a visit to the nearby Hohle Fels Schelklingen. It was closed so we headed to Burg Hohengundelfingen and the Lauteral valley.

A special sightseeing of a natural wonder.
Nice walk along the spring, can be continued by a walk through the monastry yard and the beautiful church.
The small town of Blaubeuren is full of old nice buildings.

We spent a day in Blaubeuren on the pitch by the swimming pool.
The Blautopf welcomed us with a beautiful color. The color is best expressed when you are standing to the side. So near the statue of the "Schöne Lau" and opposite.
You can eat in the restaurant right by the Blautopf. The prices are moderate. I can't say anything about the quality.

I got monkey pox from swimming in the water. The internet connection is terrible and I was unable to play Fortnite. I had to go back to playing with sticks like some primitive monkey. I would give this 0 stars but I can only give it 1. 😡😡😡

On a lovely day we visited Blautopf, which was on our bucket list. We could see the most incredible shades of blue and green colours. You can have a walk around the little lake and in the forest. It is really beautiful. If you are near to Stuttgart or Ulm then it is recommended to visit.

Yup, it really is as blue as you see in the photos, well at least when the sun shines. Of course this is the must see sight in Blaubeuren. Walk around the back for a nice photo angle and slightly less of a crowd. Follow the path for a nice but short walk.

Whoever called the Danube blue clearly never visited this place! It is a wonderfully blue pond - the exact colour perceived is depending on the weather - but...that is it. You can have a walk around it, but it will not keep you occupied for very long.
You can keep yourself busy with visiting the town centre which has some charming halftimbered houses. Which are nice but nothing as spectacular as some other German villages which are really famous for that. The real distinguishing feature is that blue pond.
A bit further from the town centre is a peculiar rock formation called "Küssende Sau", the Kissing Sow.

Hallo liebe Leute ,

How far is it from train station? How can you reach there by public transport?

From the station to Blautopf it is about 1.5 km. There are a few irregular bus connections (lines 365 and 369) with a 15 minute drive. But it is much nicer to take a leisurely walk through the old town from Blaubeuren to the spring, for which one should plan about 25 minutes.

Is it easy to find and stroller friendly? Are dogs allowed to go into the water?
