Don’t be put off by the slightly amateurish and tacky entrance and gift shop this gorge is spectacular and although the walk is uphill it should be achievable by anyone with average fitness. Well made path with sturdy hand rail and well engineered steps ....More

Beautiful walk up the gorge, along steps and paths, good activity for a cooler or damp day. We visited from Chamonix, easy to get to on the train, get off at servos and then a 15 minute walk, you'll need directions.

Didn't find spectacular at all. Perhaps because we have many beautiful waterfalls at home in Scotland. Some interesting points en route regarding geology and industrial past. Walkways fairly well made, not too slippy even on wet day we visited. Cafe good at entrance, excellent prices...More

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The walk through the dramatic and sometimes spectacular gorge was super. We went during a period of quite heavy rain but this did not detract from our experience. The torrent of water pounding down the gorge is a wonder to...More

Help planning itineary (2 Replies)
Hi all, I’m planning an itinerary for an 8 day visit to Chamonix. There is so much to do, I could really use some help planning beyond the first few days. Here’s what we’ve booked so far: August 28 - arrive Chamonix 19:30 – Birthday dinner at Munchies 21:00 August 29 – buy supplies for the week and day trip to Annecy August 30 - Aigule du midi – Step into the Void – The Grand Balcon Nord – The Mer de Glace, Ice Cave Montenvers Train (all this is possible in a single day, yes?) ...More

Well I would include the Mont Blanc Panorama on your planned 30th Aug day. If you make it a full day then you will have plenty of time. Martigny is worth a visit as there are some interesting Roman ruins including a complete amphitheatre. You can take the train to Martigny, changing at Vallorcine to the Swiss rail network. A tip for travelling on the valley train service is go to the Tourist office and buy a rail card for €2 per person as this entitles you to free train travel between...More
