A Covid 19 nightmare, We did not feel safe
Jul 2020
This is a beautiful place but spoiled by other visitors not wearing their masks During the COVID-19 outbreak.

A sign at the entrance explains in English and French that, due to the boardwalks being very narrow, that the wearing of masks is compulsory. A man at the gate ensured everyone entering was wearing a mask.

The trip is around 1000m Each way but we stopped after 300m when we saw that people coming the opposite way we’re not wearing masks. We sat down for about 20 minutes and estimated that 40% of men, and. 20% of women had removed their masks.
We reported this to the man at the entrance but he seemed indifferent and powerless to enforce wearing of masks.
We shall return as the place is truly stunning but, during the COVID-19 outbreak, we can not recommend visiting as the safeguards are inadequate.

Lovely views but can get a bit busy
Aug 2019 • Family
We went here on a hot sunny weekday in August with two children aged 5 and 7. We arrived 10.50am. Both the top and bottom car parks were already full and cars were starting to park on the side of the road, which we managed to do after turning round in the top car park. By time we’d parked there were no further spaces on the road.

You pay go in at gift shop - we paid cash and so I’m not sure if they accept credit cards.

You then climb up lots of steps to take you through the gorge. Compared with recent treacherous hikes up to see waterfalls recently on non-maintained tracks this was an absolute doddle for us. But it was a bit narrow in places so there bottle necks as it was busy and people were stopping to take photos. There were lots of spectacular views though. It’s not the sort of walk where you need to take trekking poles.

It was a bit cold at the very top and our 5 year old wanted his jumper on. Otherwise we’d all been fine with shorts and t shirts. The walk is mostly shady though rather than in the sunshine.

We were back at the gift shop by 12.15pm. The cafe had lots of outdoor seating available with parasols shading them. A few paninis were on offer plus ice creams and drinks. The lady at the cafe was very friendly and helpful and spoke English well. The food was lovely and came quite quickly. We paid cash so not sure if credit cards accepted. There was a small play area a bit like a sand pit but with gravel which the children loved whilst we waited for food.

Toilet facilities were at the bottom of the walk near the gift shop.

Picnics were welcome at the cafe with drinks ordered which I thought was nice.

By 1pm when we were leaving it was busier at the cafe but there were still spare tables. I’m not sure if there were any tables inside.
The parking situation had got a lot worse by the time we left and I guess lots of people in the top car park were blocked in by other inconsiderate people parking their cars in non-existent spaces.

Good walk on a hot day
Jul 2019 • Family
The Gorge is great visit when it is hot since it is mostly in the shade. The walk is fairly easy and there are signs along the way about the history, animals and geology of the Gorge. There are great views of the waterfalls along the walk and the view at the end is amazing. It is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.

Impressive trail with bridges
Jul 2019 • Couples
Nice walk along the canyon with great views. Not a very hard walk and it can be done in an hour. The view at the end is great. No trekking gear needed.

Nice hike, beautiful scenery
Jun 2019 • Family
Very nice hike. The trail is very well cared for. It wasn't a difficult hike but it was all uphill on the way in. When you get to the top there is the most beautiful breeze! Great picture opportunities.

Well worth a visit
Jun 2019 • Couples
Well worth a visit, it was sweltering when we were here but it was a really nice leisurely stroll. Plenty of signs to read and whilst it does obviously have a lot of steps there is to much to stop and look at that it really didn’t feel that hard work at all. The photos don’t do it justice and the engineering to get the path in in the first place is very impressive indeed.

Beautiful

What a wonderful place! Absolutely stunning scenery, a moderate walk and not great if you don’t like being close to the edge but everything felt very secure and well looked after. Very good value for money and a real hidden gem! I would love to come back when the dam is open and the river fuller!

Photos just don't do it justice !
May 2019 • Couples
We went and visited the gorge one afternoon on a hot sunny day in May, the tree cover and gorge provided a nice respite from the heat of the sun. The path is very well maintained as it winds its way up the gorge. There are several wooden benches to rest on; as you walk up. We were there when the river was in full flow and so saw an awesome volume of water crashing through the gorge. Taking a couple a sandwiches with us, we easily spent 2 hours reading the various info panels and leisurely walking up the path and back.

Good value, stunning and great on a hot day
Jun 2019 • Friends
Lovely for a walk - fairly accessible so long as you are ok on steps not that daunting really! We had 2 80 year olds do it! Recommend shoes with good tread!
Ideal to escape the heat of the day!
Small entrance fee to cover the cost of maintenance
Toilets, free parking, gift shop and cafe

Stunning gorge
Sep 2018 • Couples
Don’t be put off by the slightly amateurish and tacky entrance and gift shop this gorge is spectacular and although the walk is uphill it should be achievable by anyone with average fitness. Well made path with sturdy hand rail and well engineered steps . Interesting interpretation boards all along the path. A little less than a mile in each direction
