Full Day 3 Village Tour of Provence: Self-driving

An incredible tour which starts at a near by, little known medieval village full of history, Napoleon and charm. We follow an ancient road through the mighty Gorges of Olllioules to our next destination, Le Castellet.

Immediately we are surrounded by the famous vineyards of Bandol wine appellation, and, as if we are in a road trip movie, we zig zag through typical bright Provencal country side. We do an obligatory stop to sample some of these great wines, while learning and understanding what makes the grape varieties here so special.

We carry on to Le Castellet and its famous castle where we will visit esoteric shops, winding streets, and have a 360 degree view of vineyards, mountains, and the sea. An incredible location at the heart of the Var district of Provence. This is off-beaten-path of most tours in Provence.

After we had lunch we will carry on to probably the most beautiful and authentic ports in all of Provence, the celebrated Sanary-sur-mer, and I need not say more.

Portissol is a beautiful spot- you have got a great view over the little bay. Enjoying a meal or a drink in one of the restaurants is definitely worthwhile. When you come for sun bathing, swimming or water sports you better check out whether the beach was cleaned from seaweed (we were there “off season” and the beach was not cleaned and therefore not very inviting for swimming).

We come here from time to time to lunch at the Bard'o. We love to profit from the view out to sea even in winter. We NEVER come in July/August !!

Beach well used by locals. Not over commercialised, no sun beds for hire, but very eco friendly and natural. Spent many a day here having a swim in the sheltered bay and just lying in the sun living the South of France dream.

We have visited this beach on three separate occasions and every time it is very windy, probably because it is quite and exposed beach. One of the main problems is the amount of debris in the sea nearest the shore from trees and plants. Apparently the council do clean it out every three years but be warned if you intend swimming near the shore you are likely to get covered in it, go further out and you'll be fine.
