About
The Loket castle, built of stone, is more than 800 year old settlement, positioned on a granite rock that is runaround by the river of Ohre. It was most probably founded as a frontier fortress. The castle served to kings, Lords of Schlick and Lords of Plauen, Loket´s townsmen and it was used as prison in 19th and 20th century. Shortly after 1989, it was open for public. The tour leads through expositions of porcelain, collections of former town museum, museum of arms to the premises of former prison where an impressive and authentic demonstration of torture can be seen.

Beautiful castle, the city is very nice. Good food, pretty sights. The torture chamber was a bit much, but that's okay, haha.

Thank you very much for the review. We are happy you enjoyed the visit. I agree that the torture chamber can be a little disstresing, but it is a representation of what the history of the executioners life was. We want to show the good things and the bad things.
We wish you a great day!

One of the most beautiful and biggest castles I have ever visited. The architecture, the tower, the view, the little museums inside the castle… everything was so authentic and full of history.

You need to buy a ticket for entry but only cash is accepted. The cash machine is in a ten minute walk distance.

Small but nice castle. There is variety of small different expositions .

if you can stomach it, visit the "come to life" torture chambers...! Quite the historic place and very well maintained. Enjoy some very good and cheap food (incl. some of the best beers of the region).

When we visited the weather was gorgeous, this definitely added to the atmosphere of the place. The castle was very good, you could explore by yourself or take a guided tour.

We've been to the castle in the afternoon of a Wednesday, so not a really busy day.
The castle grounds are fairly big, so allow plenty of time to visit.
If you have a pram, best to leave it at the entrance (if you manage to push it all the way to the castle's entrance that is) because the surface is uneven and you've got to walk carefully if you don't want to break a leg (you ladies forget the high hills too).
Most of the signs and billboards are in English so you should be fine but some are only in czech, so, tough if you don't speak the language, lol.
Be aware also that they're are a lot of stairs when you move around, so bear in mind if you have a stick or wheelchair (best of luck with accessibility!)
I believe they also organize guided tour, best to ask at the ticket office when yiu arrive.
There is a car park near the entrance of the castle but it doesn't seem to be very easy to get to amd crucially, i don't know if it is only for staff or visitors too.

Castle Loket is,without a doubt, a MUST SEE attraction for anyone who is travelling in this area.
A large car park is available onle a few minutes walk from the town. From there, you walk across a bridge to the wonderful castle and village.
We recommend that you walk around the little town centre and take in the (free to enter) beer museum and the lovely fountain before viewing the Castle. There is a lovely terrace restaurant around the back of the Catle where we had coffees and ice cream..
The Castle is extremely impressive and well preserved and tours are available although we didn`t go on one because we had so much still to see that day...
I cannot believe anyone could visit Castle Loket and fail to be impressed...

Добрый день! Мы парковали машину на площади, недалеко от Чумного столба.
Но стоянки есть перед въездом в старый центр (недалеко от Черной башни), и вдоль улиц

What is the easiest or quickest way to reach Loket Castle from Prague, returning on the same day? Buses/Coaches or trains preferred
Written March 22, 2018
Prague (Student Agency or Flix bus = ca 160CZK) > Karlovy Vary (regional coach or train = ca 30CZK)> Loket... and back
The easiest way to find how to get somewhere via public transport is this website (also in GER and ENG): 3x w (dot) idos (dot) cz

how much will a taxi coast from Grandhotel Pupp to the castle?
thank you in advance.
Written March 16, 2015
Miriam,
I don't know really how much it would cost to take a taxi from Karlovy Vary to Loket since we drove there, but I have a couple of suggestions. First, you may want to consider renting a car for just one day which would likely be less expensive. That way, you could take your time and not feel rushed when visiting the town and castle since it's worth a day trip. Next, you could try getting a couple of quotes from taxi services on the internet from Karlovy to Loket. I've found this to be a more cost effective way to travel with taxis in Czech since those hailed on the street can be less than totally reputable and can be very expensive. I hope this may help you.
