When you think this castle was in a very poor state in the early 50s, it is a kind of miracle to be able to visit a very nice, well organized and attractive renovated history inheritage (thank you EU funds). I recommend taking the 45-60 minutes tour. Thisus place went through so many hands it has a rich and various history. In particular, the torture rooms are worth the visit, just make sure you brief your kids before... Our tour guide was great, engaged and involving visitors. We enjoyed it 🙂

Accessible with train (with one connection) or even with a bus to Doubi and then a (long) hike along the river. This is the most authentic and genuine medieval castle and town I've ever been to. Make sure you visit all rooms and halls, and mostly the gruesome torture chambers...

We were travelling towards Karlovy Vary, when we found this castle pop up on our Google Maps, so we took a detour and did not get disappointed. Certainly a tourist attraction as the restaurants around Loket are a lot more expensive than elsewhere, BUT the castle is pretty darn cool! You get to see all the pomp and fancy stuff, but also the really nasty torture rooms. It is quite a sight to see. If you have time for a walk, make your way around the castle by walking along the river. There are a few nice walks up into the forest as well. Serves as really nice photo spots.
