We have been there twice, but we could not get in. It was closed, so seconed time I called the bulgarien number, which was written on the entrance door and ask to open the monastery, but lady told me,that is closed, without any explanation. We were there during the day,not after 18:00,when it is normally closed.

We happened to be in Arbanasi on a very rainy day and decided to go to this small nunnery by the name of my patron saint Sveti Nikola, as it is pronounced in Bulgarian. The place is so quiet, humble and really spiritual. Although they sell candles, Orthodox calendars and some small, cheap icons, it is not commercial at all unlike the other "major" monasteries where religion have been turned into a business and you have to pay for everything. A nun came and opened the church for us where we lit some candles, spent some time tooking at the murals and had a nice conversation with the nun. Unassuming but beautiful and well-maintained place!

The convent was beautiful, but all that's really open to see is the church with the Icon and even that is in a dark room with faded paintings on the walls.

This monastery is a very pretty peaceful place. It is worth the time to visit if you are in Veliko Trnovo/Arbanassi area. The garden around the church is very pretty, with plenty of benches to rest.

It is perfect! The countryside view is amazing! This year on December the grass is still green and it is a real pleasure to have a walk on Arbanasi St. Nicholas Convent!
