Worth a Second Visit
Sep 2020
We visited here many years ago Sept. 11 but it was raining (and maybe a little early in the season) so we didn't get to appreciate the beautiful "coral" color. I don't know much about marshes so both "glasswort" and "marsh samphire" were new to me. The name "sango-so" (coral weed) is much better) IMO. More picturesque. We plan to visit again & hopefully catch a better time.

Amazing sea of red glasswort in early October
Oct 2017 • Friends
We stumbled across this place - our research had not highlighted it to us, but we could see some signs and a busy parking spot with a few coaches and plenty of tourists milling around what would usually be a fairly unassuming town that would not deserve your attention on the edge of Lake Notoro. Having already driven past and asked ourselves "what was that" we pulled a U-turn in the middle of the street and headed back to investigate.

We had hit lucky to find the main attraction of the town in bloom - the red glasswort - or what I would call samphire back home. There is a raised walkway over the marsh beds where the glasswort grows and you get a good view. Although the glasswort was probably just past its best I'll let my photos speak for themselves. There's precious little else here - there were a few stalls around the car park selling snacks and souvenirs but if the glasswort is in bloom and its nice weather do stop on your way through Ubaranai and take a few moments to take it all in.

Nice surrounding for photos during right season
Oct 2016 • Couples
We were here on 19 Oct, hoping to see the red glasswort. Unfortunately, the season was over and we saw brown batches of glasswort instead of the pretty red colours. Nevertheless, the place is still pretty good for some great photos, especially on a sunny day.

It was so beautiful

I came here on 12/9/2016 and it was two days after the Sangoso Matsuri. The coral grass was red and vast. Beautiful!
