Beautiful Temple, Lovely Colors but Expensive!
Nov 2020
I had the Kosanji Temple marked on my maps as a must when I rode my bike on the Shimanami Kaido. I was really looking forward to visiting the temple but the entrance price really threw me off. Generally in Japan, entrances are cheap, but 1400 yen was steep. Since I was there I paid the fee and wandered around. I would admit the temple and grounds are beautiful. I loved the colors of the temples and how decorative the buildings were. The cave was closed when I came because of social distancing. I found the hill of hope to be a bit odd but unique. Overall, I would say I am glad I came, but if you are on a strict budget it might not be worth it.

Worth a look.

Interesting temple along the Shimanami Kaido. The 1000 Buddha cave worth a look. Entry is a little more expensive than other temples.

Amazing and unique temple from others
Apr 2019 • Solo
A bit of hassle to get there but once you cross the ferry from Mihara to Setoda, the temple itself is unique and wonderful, especially when you get to Miraishin no Oka, the marble structure seems to teleport you to Italy! This is a must visit while less tourists still go to this special place.

Great temple with marble garden and underground impressive caves
Mar 2019 • Couples
Doing the Shimaname kaido bike ride saw the colourful doors to this temple and decided to stop, so glad I did as it is one of my favourite temples in Japan.

It's very colourful and in the same complex there is a marble garden and an impressive underground cave complex.

Yes it is more expensive that most temples but has a lot more to it.

One of the Most Beautiful Temples we Visited in Japan
Apr 2018 • Couples
Beautiful settings, trees, and flowers. Everywhere you look is an interesting and pretty sight. There is also a marble hill associated with the temple which is very different from anything else we saw in Japan.

A very lovely place. Also, unlike many other temples, it is not crowded wall to wall. A must do location.

Marble Temple
Nov 2017 • Couples
The place was beautiful. It was only disappointing because of the entrance fee which it cost me ¥1,400 (per head).

More than we expected
Nov 2017 • Family
On our bike ride to Imabari we had to stop in here. Amazing temple with beautiful gardens, particularly in autumn. The surprise was the Italian marble garden in the back corner of then grounds. 3000 tonne of carerra marble all latex out to walk on the including sculpted modern art pieces. What a juxtaposition to the entry with classic temple buildings. Definitely worth seeing, especially if you are passing by following the blue line on your bike. It is only a minor detour.

A mixture of religion, art and history - a must visit place.

The temple complex was very different from other Japanese shrines. We really enjoyed walking across different dieties, the cave with hundreds of sculptures and the marble hill of hope. The scenic views from the hill of hope were also beautiful.

Hill of Hope

This temple was beautiful. This place was one of the stops that I made while i was biking. The hill of hope was absolutely stunning. And the cave with 1000 Buddhas was just amazing. Definitely a must see if you are in Hiroshima!!
