Lovely Temple
Nov 2016 • Couples
Only a few other people were visiting this temple the day we went, presumably because it's some distance from Onomichi Eki. But either walk or grab a bus down to Saikokuji bus stop and climb the hill. It will definitely be worth the effort. The temple is lovely and the view from the hill is wonderful. Unfortunately on the day we were there, we could not go all the way to the pagoda, because the path was blocked off.

gorgeous temple in a great location. Beautiful with the blossoms

We walked up there on our 25 temple walk day and it was worth the exercise. The interesting twisted vines on the trellis in the yard and then the pagoda above. We took loads of photos but didn't end up climbing up to the pagoda b/c it was at the end of a long day. A must see temple. With views over the city as well.

The most beautiful temple in Onomichi
Apr 2016 • Couples
After walking many hours around town, we finished our day walking the stairs to this beautiful temple and I was very surprised, it's very special, peaceful and has amazing views. Really enjoyed this place and was lucky to get the last bit of sakura.

Gorgeous shrine with lots of nooks and crannies! A must see.

You HAVE to go up to the top to see the view! Absolutely spectacular. I would love to have walked if I had a full day JUST for that, but having only the day for Itsukushima as a whole, took the ropeway up and then walked the last kilometer to the top. Absolutely stunning.

Climb the stairs and look behind to see the whole Onomichi. The sakura season is one of the best period.

Small Temple Next to Huge Boulders
Mar 2015 • Family
Its near the top of the hill with great view overlooking Onomichi at various vista points. There's a path carved to side of huge boulders as you go up towards the peak and its observation tower. Worth a stop to look around

Lovely views

A visit to the Saikokuji Temple is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Take the ropeway up and visit the temple and enjoy lovely views of Onomichi. A great spot for cherry blossom viewing if you happen to visit in the springtime. The walk back down is easy and provides the opportunity to see traditional architecture along the way.

Saikoku-ji Temple and pagoda Onomichi Japan
Apr 2011
This is a great temple and pagoda to visit. It is situated on the temple walk above the city. It provides spectacular reviews of the city below when standing at the pagoda elevation. We experienced this site during the peak of the cherry blossom which was a bonus to the visit. Be prepared to have a challenging walk to reach the pagoda. But in the end it is all very worth the effort. There are stops along the way at various levels to experience the temple. Allow at least 2 hours for this adventure.
