What a lovely setting!
The cheese tasting was delicious and informative. We learned about many different cheese making techniques and enjoyed some very tasty cheeses and preserves.

Friendly and inviting

A Taste of Marrakesh
Sep 2020 • Couples
So many times I've threatened to drive the 'old road' to Kzn, South Coast and in particular the R103- the Midlands Meander.

Driving at a leisurely pace to take in all the surrounding beauty, we came across MERRAKESH CHEESE. The owner walked to the shop and greeted us as we arrived, advising we are about to spend the next 20 to 30 minutes tasting their offering of cheeses.

The gastrnomic tour included how and when cheeses are made, flavoured, what's added, when, why they opt to live here and more. All exceptionally interesting. In the end we left knowing a little more about the cheese making process.

At the end we drove out with our selection of MERRAKESH cheese, that we would savour and eat while watching the ocean from our balcony.

Next time take a turn off the N3 and be sure to make this stop in the Rosetta area, part of your journey.

Good cheese . Underwhelming serving area

Walked away with some delicious cheese and was greeted and helped by a very pleasant and knowledgeable lady who runs the farm with her husband .

However there is a lot more that could be done in the little shop . Walls are falling apart , paint peeling , no where to sit .. tasting was done standing over the counter .
While nothing is wrong with the set up it does leave much to the imagination .

The drive way up is treacherous however . Not a fun drive .

But probably the most notable thing of the visit was the lack of hygiene standards during the tasting!! Very concerning , especially considering the current Covid 19 outbreak but , concerning even under normal circumstances .

If you want some food cheese then I’d say pass by but don’t have high expectations of you’re hoping to have a relaxing/inviting setting to do a tasting.

Must stop cheese tasting
Nov 2019
Really a must stop for a cheese tasting. They have a really good selection of cheeses to pick from. Take a cool box with if you visit. They also have some tasty marmalade.

The owner gave us a great overview of his cheese and we tasted a number of them. They are really good and we bought a few. They also have jams and marmalade to buy. Definitely worth a stop.

Great cheeses and tasting
Mar 2019 • Friends
If you are taking the meander through this area, definitely stop at this cheese place. The owners will give an interesting tasting session and explain the different cheeses. They are all for sale at very reasonable prices.
If you love cheese, you will enjoy the samplings of about 8-10 different cheeses.

Learn about and eat cheese
Dec 2018 • Couples
Marrakesh is a fun little diversion. We stopped in on a whim, and joined some other travelers in a tasting and learning experience. The friendly owner gave us an overview of the cheese making process, and specific things he does to suit his own tastes. The cheeses run the gamut from a farmers/ricotta style to more aged and harder cheese. They also sell homemade preserves and other items. Well worth a visit.

Must go for anyone who eats cheese
Sep 2018 • Couples
If you are in the Midlands, go here!!! At first you might think you are in the wrong place (like we did), because the farm is small and at the top of a tiny road. Once we got there, the owner gave us a taste of all his cheeses which were all amazing. He was so friendly and easy to talk to, and the experience was great. We ended up going home with 500 rand worth of cheeses because we loved them so much. They also sell a variety of jams and marmalades - we bought strawberry and it is delicious. This is definitely worth a stop if you’re in the Midlands, and Wine Cellar, a wine tasting shop, is super close so you can visit there as well :)

This a definate "MUST DO" on the Midlands Meander

And we thought that cheese was just cheese ..... the friendly staff explained the differences about the cheeses we sampled and this made the tasting all the more interesting. If you enjoy different cheeses other than just eating Cheddar and Gouda, then a visit here is most worthwhile. Not necessary to buy anything, but we went away with three or four small heslices of exotic cheeses to enjoy once back home. No problems with just purchasing a very small amount, the staff are very helpful.
