This is a gem of a small chateau with a fascinating history. Not overcrowded and has been in the same family for over 400 years. The owners still live and breath life into Ainay le Vieil. The gardens are beautiful and the architectural evolution of...More

The château of Ainay-le-Vieil, is a historical monument along the tourist route, "la Route Jacques Coeur", in the village of Ainay le Vieil. It has remained under the ownership of the same family since 1467 when it was purchased by Charles de Chevenon de Bigny.

We visited in late May, unfortunately a couple of weeks too early for the rose garden to come into its own. It's a pleasant stroll around the gardens, though the chateau itself is rather bare
