Driving the coastal road from Vlore to Saranda is the best drive you can have in Albania. The distance between the two is only 140 km, but you need 3 hrs for that without stopping, so you might imagine how curvy the road is. The drive reminds of the Amalfi coast one on a smaller scale.
With stopping, which I strongly suggest you need an entire day.
I suggest this itinerary:
From Vlore you ascend to almost 1.000 m altitude with a significant temp drop, driving through terrific mountain roads with several restaurants to stop or honey to buy along the way.
First scenic spot is "Panorama Llogara" - terrific place with unbelievable views of the coast beneath you and from where paraglyders take off.
After that, just two curves below is one of the bigger Enver Hohxa bunkers, along with several smaller, again great views.
Your third stop should be Dhermi - imo best sea town with the best beach in whole Albania (you see it up from the previous two stops).
Fourth stop is Himare, also a nice beach town.
Fifth and last stop before Saranda should be the Ali Pasha fortress in Palermo bay (read that review).
It will be a full day of great sites to see along the way.

Llogara; the embodiment of the Albanian landscape. On the lookout you have a full view of the sea and the clouds are so close you could touch them. The road is paved and quiet good however it is very steep and the turns could be a challenge for inexperienced drivers. I saw people on motor homes adventuring the climb. You need to keep in mind that the roads are not very wide hence make sure to give space to incoming traffic. The restaurants on the northern side are quiet delightful, they do not have a very diverse menu but if you like meat and dairy you will have a treat. Prices are quiet affordable. Now for all you tourists visiting Llogara; on the side of the road you will find vendors selling mountain tea and honey. Please do buy something; these people leave of the mountain and its harvest, your small contribution goes a long way. In addition the honey is harvested off the mountain flowers and the tea collected from the peak of the mountain. When you make tea and mix it with honey it is like you are drinking the essence of the mountain. Enjoy your trip and be safe.

Fantastic view and nature. Very good information about the different routes to go. You Can choose long walk. We took the shortest with help from the informationcenter. And we had a great experience.

Absolutely nothing to say about the view, breathtaking and overlooking the sea. You almost feel like you're falling... Too bad some things:
- we were in June 2024 the road was a mess, boulders everywhere and trucks with or without trailers carrying dangerous loads and creating traffic, local Albanians speeding everywhere despite the size of the roads with only two directions, overtaking on bends , sudden braking, reckless and wild behavior, also seen the lack of road safety such as road delimiters to prevent falling down. In fact, it is very often that we see tombstones with photos of the deceased and accidents must be frequent.
- we found terrible weather (I ATTACH PHOTOS) and suddenly, the more we went up (as the road forces you to do) the worse the weather got.
- the park with the fawns is an understatement to call it embarrassing, advertised as if it were an almost natural reserve, it is a hole in the park, delimited by a very difficult to close iron bar... With 9/10 fawns a bag of corn costs 0.50 € feed and leave total visit 10 minutes. A few fake photos and you're at peace!!! Ah, I forgot that we were the only couple of tourists, there were 5 school groups (another 4 arriving when we left) who shouted and ran everywhere, scaring the animals themselves, they gave the paper from the bag of corn to eat, the candy wrapper and no one told him anything. Just us and we were made fun of because we were Italian! The signs say 'be quiet' and it was anything but quiet, in fact if I could I would have taken action anyway.
*if you want to take two photos of both the view and the fawns it's worth it but be prepared for a road that to define as impervious is an understatement, no one pearls it seems like paradise, I returned home with a hallucinating anguish among the stray and/or deceased dogs on the road, the traffic, the trucks, the wrecked road it was a nightmare*

The park is south of Vlora, featuring the Ceraunic Mountains. SH 8 cuts through the park. It is good for hiking, whether you want to be out most of the day or taking the short Caesar’s Trail for its historical perspective. The road from the south takes you past the ‘flag pine’, a tree shaped by southeast winds looking strikingly like the national flag. The park was established in 1966. There are some hotels and a Visitor Center near the hotels.

We drove from Vlorë to Sarandë through the park, over the pass. A wonderful experience! Beautiful views, curvy roads and steep climbs and descents. When you want to do this, be sure you are not scared by heights and have some experience with driving in the mountains.

Albania is rightly renowned for its coastline, but this national park and mountain range - which divides it neatly in two, with Vlora and Durres to the north and Himara and Saranda to the south - is just as beautiful in its own way and offers stunning views down to the sea below. Driving to/from the southern riviera to/from e.g. Tirana you have the choice of inland or coast road: in at least one direction, do yourself a favour and choose the coast road that goes through Llogara. Stop here for more than the views, too.
