- Kelly M44 contributionsImpressive castle! We did the audio guide tour (in English) which doesn’t cover everything there is to see but we still thought it was plenty. The audio guide is much better than most, explaining very clearly the defensive strategies employed in building this state-of-the-art fortification. My daughter and I are not usually into that kind of thing, but we still thought it was really interesting.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 18, 2024
- Maria Jesus P29 contributionsVery cool and nice on the outside and inside. We were a friend and I and last of July and I took the guided route that was fine and we were shown the underground too. We did the theatrical route of the tower was also fun and great actors very well. Advice for family, children or couples.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 4, 2024
- Sandra F1 contributionThe visit to the castle is quite recommended, I was surprised at the good condition in which it is. The guides were very friendly and made it very enjoyable and interesting. It is important to book the guided tour before going, on the website we find the information. It parks very well and is easy to get to.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 3, 2024

At the top of the hill that crowns the city is this famous castle, there are three types of visits, the free and open one that includes the fighting area, the remains of the wall and the exterior, the guided one that also includes the patio and the underground galleries and the site that is located in the interpretation center where there is also the souvenir shop and ticket sales. It costs €4 and lasts 50 minutes with a discount of €3 or €2.50 depending on requirements. The last type of visit is that of the keep. In the morning they close at two and open in the afternoon two hours later. Access to the interior patio has a small lift for a stroller or wheelchair, but to go down to the lower galleries you cannot go down with those accessories.
Parking to leave the car even in the shade.
In itself, it is very well preserved since it was restored in different stages. It houses rooms on its upper floors for courses and seminars that cannot be visited. It is a place full of history in which the Catholic kings left their mark, who are responsible for the construction of the low wall that surrounds it and its adaptation to new firearms during the 15th century. Made of brick due to the lack of stone shortage in the area, it consists of a large 40-meter keep with machicolations and four heights for shooting. Its visit is recommended. Beatriz, the guide, made it enjoyable and told us several anecdotes such as how there Isabel the Catholic did not die.

We went to the Mota Castle today. Imposing facade! We had checked the website and it said "guided tours - recommended booking". We did not book and when we arrived we found the surprise that without "guided tour" there is no visit at all. You can only enter two rooms (one chapel and one quite paupérima) as the castle is monopolized by a company that manages all visits. To be able to make the visit you have to book, arrive register otherwise there is nothing to do. The poor lady of the Junta de Castilla y León didn't even know what to answer. I have been to many museums and castles, you may not get a reservation for the guided tour but you may not even have access to it yet paying, I have never seen it in my life. Conclusion: whoever wants to go book the guided tour, otherwise you will have to settle for seeing it outside.

We did the guided tour of the Mota Castle for 4 euros, it also included the climb to the Torre del Homenaje.
At first I thought it was the castle where the Catholic Monarchs lived when they were in Medina del Campo, but that is not the case, it was a defensive castle and in its time it was also a prison for the nobility. Still, it is well worth visiting and learning a little more about its history. On the other hand, if you hire the climb to the Keep, it requires good physical condition, but the views are well worth it.

It seems incredible that these walls, moats, wall and tower are so many years old and have so much history.
There is a part that was rebuilt after the civil war, and the Pilar Primo de Rivera Women's Section was installed there (a small living room and various furniture and rooms that it used are preserved).
Now courses from the Training School for CyL officials (ECLAP) are taught and there are rooms, classrooms, kitchen and dining room.
The tower is wonderfully preserved (and was built before the conquest of Granada or the discovery of America). The roofs and domes that are made with bricks are striking.
The views from the top are magnificent.

They didn't let us see the castle because we had no Reservation. They only let you see it with a guided tour booked. I find it incredible that a place of passage like Medina treats the visitor of the castle like this.
Disappointing. This morning we were left with about 20 people unable to enter the time we have been.

This is a beautiful castle built in the 15th and 16th centuries. It is a Gothic-mudejar style castle. I could not attend the guided visit, but the exterior is just amazing, surrounded by pine trees. The entrance is free to the first floor of the castle. Do not go on Sundays in the afternoons, it closes at 2.00 p.m. on Sundays.

The truth is that for a castle lover, this is very good. It has history, it has presence, it has color.....
If you come, take a place with a guide in advance, otherwise you will be like me and you will not be able to see the Torre del Homenaje.
They will offer you to visit the Testamentary House of Isabel la Católica for €1 more. It's worth it.

You can see the castle from the outside freely, which is very nice. But it is better to enter and have its history and what makes it unique explained very well.
The guided tour can be chosen with or without climbing the tower. Very good guide.

My fault really as I left my passport safe at home but if you're British make sure you have ID with you to the visit the tower. I've never heard of such a ridiculous requirement. Never been asked for ID to visit better places like the Tower of London, Empire State Building, Warwick Castle or Eiffel Tower.

This castle was "in the middle of no where". If your Spain travels take you past this location, DEFINITELY worth visiting. You could walk across the bridge and see how the moat would have worked, there were catapult "stones" and cannon balls to inspect, not the mention the little slots where they shot through. A fantastic step into history. They have a room that takes you through the history of it all and the chapel was also open. A few different artifacts (such as chests and candle holders), old to ancient, where on display throughout the interior as well.

There are several ways to visit the castle:
The first one is the free tour without a guide or ticket. This kind of visit includes the inner ward, the courtyard, the chapel and Juan de la Cosa’s hall. The castle is open from 11:00 to 14:00 and the 16:00 from 18:00 (on Sundays the castle opens in the morning)
If you prefer to visit others areas of the castle is necessary to visit them with our guided tours. There are two kinds of guided tour:
-General Guided Tour (without the keep/ tower) that includes a visit the sites of the Iron Age, the XII century city walls, the exterior of the castle, shooting underground galleries, the dungeon, the courtyard and the chapel. The duration is one hour and the price is 4,00€ but the official language is Spanish. If you want a tourist guide who speaks English the price is 6,00€ but this way only is offered for group with more than 25 people.

To rent the audio guide the ID or Passport are required. The visit lasts one hour and it costs 3,50€
