Drab and dreary

Visited early March and so not sure if it’s any better in summer, although I somehow doubt it. Expanding from the Old Town is a hotchpotch of grim looking apartment blocks and other carbuncles. The Old Town itself is run down and has no soul - even the cobbled alleys have nothing really to offer. The main through road divides the town and is busy with contra flow traffic - many of the shops are either shut for the season or simply closed. Nothing really to recommend except maybe the trail up from past the church to vantage point of Fuente del Rastrillar which I’ll do next time in passing

Picturesque village with lots of charme!

The village of Laredo and its old town is beyond beautiful. One can walk along the white beach for kilometers or explore the little beautiful alleys. I would strongly recommend walking all the way up the hill on which Laredo was built, because from the top, next to the old church, one has a breathtaking view over the cliffs and the sea. Laredo is definitely not known enough regarding its in beauty!

Like everything else in Laredo, rather grim

Compared with most old towns in Spain, Laredo's Puebla Vieja seems run down, with little to offer, both in terms of sights and eateries. The bars are generally more expensive that in surrounding towns, and the food does not look particularly appetising.

Historic quarter of Laredo

The authorities have done a good job of putting signs in Spanish on interesting old buildings in this part of town. If you speak the language you will learn all you need to know. Otherwise you can book an English speaking guide. It isn't a huge area, you can explore it comprehensively in an hour, with extra time for the church and fortress on the adjacent headland

Beautiful

We wanted to get to Bilbao but couldn't get transportation on that day so we decided to visit Laredo. What a treat! A small old town with beautiful walks and views.
