It's small, but very nice with a decent number of restaurants and shops to peruse. What it particularly nice is to walk where the views of the valley are sweeping and Tuscan-y, pardon the pun. What was a great disappointment was the Palazzo Piccolomini. It wasn't bad, but I was expecting great. The guide did an excellent job and the history was interesting. The views from the balcony were quite impressive, although you could get pretty much the same views without paying the cost of the tour. They had an exhibit of clothes that was better than one would imagine, with some lovely dresses and good descriptions. Normally I rush through most exhibits of this type. I actually gave it its due. Based on my reading, I anticipated it would be a short visit to the historic center and I was right on the mark. Three hours is fine. However, you could spend a couple hours more dining and looking through shops, if you wanted to. Worth seeing? Definitely if you are either passing through while seeing Val d'Orcia or using Pienza as a place to sleep on your way from Montepulciano to Montalcino or Siena.

The Historic Center of Pienza is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has some amazing views and some beautiful structures. It is a must see in southern Tuscany.

We arrived on a Saturday in October in Pienza. After one look at the crowds, we turned around and left. Absolutely impossible to keep the required social distance, and nobody seemed to even try. We returned on a weekday and had the town practically to ourselves. Very worthwhile to stroll around. Very well preserved buildings, and great views across the valley.

Pienza is a small gem. Built by a pope with the assistance of a renaissance architect, the city replaced an older failed settlement on the same site. Now it has remarkable architecture.

This is one of the most romantic and beautiful towns in the world. There is a sense of peace, placidity and serenity like in no other place. The views are magnificent and, the quantity of art in such a small place astounding and the food great. What else could you wish from life?

A wonderful villa, world-wide heritage of humanity. Many gorgeous attractions in a very small area. The ones I liked the most were the Palazzo Piccolomini and The Duomo. Seat in one of the coffe shops, take one expresso and try to resist to the selection os pastries.

I think the castle is ruined, there’s construction going on. Nothing special or different from other Val d’orcia towns. We passed by and decided not going in, if you are rush for time, skip the place.

Pienza is like most of the towns in the Tuscan Region, situated on a hilltop above beautiful rolling hills. The towns were built in the Middle Ages, for defensible reasons. The city is small and has many charming shops and cafes.

This city is truly an exquisite showpiece that suffers over-popularity. Every fountain, piazza and painting is harmonious. Much of its symmetry lies in the cathedral square with a slightly listing Duomo adding to the charm.

Pienza in Italy is a Tuscan village of pure beauty and once seen, it is not easily forgotten. Pienza and its surroundings provide a rare beauty, made of rolling hills and cypress trees that dot the horizon. Along the road to get to Pienza, the ideal poetic city, you will be so fascinated by the landscape that you might be tempted to continue your car trip: do not hesitate, in the old town there are plenty of treasures, most notably the Palazzo Piccolomini. Pienza is a perfect tourism stop during the discovery of the Val d'Orcia, surrounded with other small and characteristic towns like Montalcino and Bagno Vignoni; about 50 km separates Pienza from Siena.
