- WonderWatcherFort Myers, Florida19 contributionsThe best of Italy. The best in food appreciationIf you love food, if you appreciate farming, if you marvel at how the plant turns into pasta, the grape to wine, the goat/sheep to cheese, if you can handle a tough lesson in farm sustainability from a passionate family who has worked the land for 30 years, if you enjoy a view of the Italian countryside….this is the place for you. Of the 17 days I spent traveling throughout Italy in October, this was one of the top highlights. Attend the tour, eat the food, and above all, be OPEN to learning and watching and listening about how food is grown, nurtured, and loved. Foodies beware, you may never want to leave.Visited October 2021Traveled with friendsWritten November 5, 2021
- houstontravelingfoolHouston, Texas3,642 contributionsJust go!We were a group of ten who either did the cheese demonstration or the truffle hunt and we ALL loved what we did. Then we gathered as a group and had a wonderful lunch of organic foods produced there at the farm. The views from the terrace are exquisite and if the weather's good, that's where lunch is served. I can't recommend this outing enough. Just go! You won't be sorry. It was a wonderful experience.Visited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten April 23, 2023
- Paul C11 contributionsThis was a great experience and I learned a lot. Had a great time and highly recommend it,Podere Il Casals, a pecorino cheese organic farm located in the Pienza valley which is a UNESCO heritage protected valley with amazing scenery. We learned a lot about the process of how cheese is made and saw some of it being made. Our wonderful guide showed us all their different farm animals and milking stations, showed and explained how and where their various cheese is stored and answered all of our questions. After the tour our group of 6 were treated to a wide variety of the farm’s cheeses beginning with ricotta and all of them were delicious as was the wine and their honey as well. The other 2 young couples in our group shared the same outside picnic table and we stayed an extra hour enjoying each other’s company before Taking group picture and saying goodbye.Visited May 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten May 2, 2022

We reserved for the truffle hunt and lunch. We got there early to enjoy the view over the countryside. The view is likely much better during dinner when the light is softer, certainly during the summer. The hunt was staged where we walked down a trail from the parking lot. More than once the gentleman had to tug on the dog's leash to direct him to the hidden truffle. Granted you probably wouldn't want to go on a real hunt which might involve a long drive and take most of the day, with cross country hiking.
You could see the whole farm in 15 minutes. It took a while to get the attention of the staff as they process a lot of customers through here, doing various classes. The lunch was ho hum, certainly for the price, even with truffles added to the dishes.

We all wanted to have a nice dinner. So we decided to try the always fully booked Podere il Casale. The place was magical the view was stunning. We had a very nice glass of vino outside even tho the smell of animals. When it came to go inside and have the actual dinner we had a very pretentious meal. Special mention to the tomino that was VERY TINY. The portions in general are vweeeery tiny and for the price the could add something more to it. And to conclude the day the portions were so tiny and everything by that time was closed that forced us to go straight to the closest mcdonalds…30 mins away

Avoid at all cost. Rip-off. Unfriendly staff, poor food, exorbitant prices. We payed 220 euros per person for a disgusting salad, a little cheese and a pasta with perhaps 1g of low quality turffle.

We had the least enjoyable meal of our two week trip in Italy at this agriturismo. The view is beautiful and that’s about the extent of its merit. There is a reason it is filled with American tourists being driven around by hired drivers and no Italians eating. The head waiter shows such lack of interest in his job and makes guests feel like an inconvenience unless you are buying everything on the menu. The food is expensive for tiny portions and not even flavorful or fresh. The pasta was cold. The roast beef was just a few raw slices of cold cuts for 18 euro. Though a few of the ladies serving wine were cheerful, the rest of the experience was beyond dismal. The only reason this has good reviews is that it has a cooking school and most of the positive reviews are for that. Save yourself the time and disappointment and go to a more hospitable and authentic place for lunch.

Very dissapointing. We paid so much for so litlte food. I was looking so forward to this experience after reading the reviews. I had to cook dinner as we all were starving when we came home. There was no meat on the pieces of chicken we all ordered.
A lot of talk about how great their farm is and that they make everything, but fell short after paying $200 euros for almost nothing. Save your money and go eat somewhere else. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I stopped by this farm to pick up their famous pecorino cheese and was lucky to get a table at the restaurant for coffee. The place is just gorgeous, with stunning views over the rolling Tuscan hills; the garden is so pleasant to just relax. Service is friendly, and the grounds are quite interesting: there are some old kitchen furniture items from a bygone era and beautiful peacocks grazing around. A must-visit stop during your tuscan holiday.

We took lunch on a Sunday. The place is very nice, the view it's incredible, the staff is gentle.
The products are local, are very tasty but i think it's expensive compared with the portions. You pay a lot the location basically.
I cannot say I would recommend it.
I attach a photo with the menù. Hope it helps

Amazing location and amazing food. The view is just incredible! Go for lunch when the weather is nice. That is what we did on the recommendation of another local place and we were so happy. Their food and wine is all from their own production. This place really felt special. There were peacocks walking around, cats lounging in the sun and us drinking wine and basking in the Tuscan sun. Pure bliss.

We had dinner here with our 9 guests the evening before our wedding. WOW. We couldn't have picked a better spot! They were so accommodating and even catered to my MIL (vegetarian) and me (vegan) and never once did we feel like we lost flavour. The views are stunning and the staff couldn't have been better. The views were stunning and we all sat there with our phones out the entire time. So much of their food and drink comes from their farm and /or surrounding vendors. The cheese plate and pasta was much loved but I cannot stop thinking about the lemon and basil sorbet. Thank you for a wonderful evening and the best memories.

Such a great experience, learning from Sandra the history of the valley and her farm. The cooking was surprising easy and fun and the food was great. With the beautiful setting, wine and family, this made for the perfect end to our Italy trip!

How do we find out what the activities (like cheese, wine tasting, and farm tour) are for each day and when you serve lunch and dinner?
Do we need reservations for a visit and meal?
Ciao,
