I visited this small and characteristic village on Recommendation of a person I met at the hotel in Chianciano.
The first impression was that of the characteristic small village , typical of the area , perched on the hill .
We toured the village, looking around and visiting the beautiful church with frescoes.
Having noticed the indication of the tourist information office we contacted the staff present. Very kindly they provided us with a map of the village and gave us several directions on the routes and things to see.
As soon as we left, while we were looking at the map , we were approached by a gentleman who was present in the information office , who in addition to this performs many other functions such as newsagent , bar , drug distribution , convenience store and more .
This person initially gave us some directions and then acted as a Guide around the country in a route of about an hour.
He told us about the history of the country and explained many things about the life of the country, from the battles of the Middle Ages to the present day.
It was a fantastic experience from which we learned many things.
But the most important thing is that without him we could not fully appreciate the many beauties of the country.
For this I would like to thank this wonderful person that Mr. Guido Caciotti , for his helpfulness and courtesy , but above all for passing on some of his knowledge .
I think it would be a wonderful service if we could organize guided tours of the country like the one we did.
In any case, one Recommendation I leave to those who will read this review, is to go and ask for information from the information office that is in the center of the village next to the church.
Thanks again Guido ..... an experience we will not forget.

Monticchiello is always a jewel to visit and admire. Overlooking the wonderful and colorful Val D'Orcia is that balcony from which the gaze travels to Pienza and beyond to the distant slopes of Amiata and Cetona. Beautiful plots of color of the meadows and crops where majestic pines rise that cover and protect long rows of vineyards and scattered "flocks" of olive trees. Quietness reigns supreme and you can hear the echo of the footsteps that resonate between the alleys made of shade and sun. On the doors of the houses the elderly knit and chat while the respectful tourists touch those images of a past time but still alive. The only problem that still persists is the scarcity of parking spaces. In the evening the warm rays of the sun make the fields shine, which slowly darken as the timid stars begin to shine in the sky. Go visit it because it is something rare.

We hadn't planned this stop, but when I saw the sign, I said let's go. Besides, from below it just looked like a Tuscan hill town should look and that never disappoints. From what we walked and we did not walk it all, Montichiello is a small, cute little town with not a great deal to see or do. We stopped in on the small duomo. It was ok. If you are in town, as we were, why not? Would I make a special trip just for it? No. Then we went into a little store and picked up a couple of magnets, a postcard or two and a couple of sodas. I like to support the local economy in these small towns. What really makes the town worth visiting is the view from the road coming up from the valley and from the parking at the end of that road. Sweeping and with a landscape looking like Tuscany is supposed to look, we lingered for maybe 10-15 minutes when we got in town and then a little while after our walk around town. Afterwards, we went on the famous twisty road up the hill with cypresses. You know the one you always see pictures of. It was nice, but a bit of a letdown. It's a very short road up to the top of the hill and there are only a handful of trees. Take a picture the right way and it look better than it is, sort of like pictures of hotel rooms on a travel website. Well, that's Montichiello. It's worth seeing if you are in the area, as we were, staying in Pienza and driving around the area.

This small town is a perfect launching pad to see Tuscany. Wine tours and shopping in Montepulciano, Pienze, Siena, Montalcino, etc., you can experience it all during the day. The town has 2 excellent restaurants. Cooking class at Daria's was the highlight of our trip. The town was so friendly, you couldn't have asked for a better 4 days.

This tiny 1000 year old Tuscan hill town is well worth a slight detour if you are traveling to or from Montepulciano by car. The walls and structures in the village such as the church are about 850 years old. There are a couple of outstanding restaurants in the village, but they do not open for dinner until 7pm.

Nice views of Pienza and the rolling Tuscan hills. Small, not much to do here but nice to get away from the crowds

We stopped in to Monticchiello today, and it was well worth the hike up from the parking area. This is a lovely, well preserved small hill town. There is a good visitors’ center, several appealing restaurants and a few small shops selling locally made products. The people were generous and welcoming. A lovely side trip during a drive in Tuscany.

We came to this town from Montepulciano. Parked on a very steep street near the entrance to the town. Not sure where else we could have parked if that space was filled. The streets are very steep and narrow, but the town is so cute and has so many picture moments. It took us all of 40 minutes to walk the entire town. I did find a towel and fabric shop, which was fun to walk thru. Everything else seemed closed. As we were leaving, there was a gelateria across the street that looked open. But we were on to our next town. I am glad that we walked thru, just to see the interesting houses and front doors. If you can find a place to see the view, it's pretty nice, as well.

Just 10min drive from a famous town, world heritage listed; Pienza, this small town is under rated in my opinion. Though there are not many shops and restaurants, the view of Pienza over Val d'Orcia (another world heritage listed valley) from this town is just stunning. It is worth visiting here just for this view. Highly recommended to visit after Pienza.
