    A good guidance
We stayed at an Air B’n’B a few hundred meters away. We had booked in advance and luckily (?) it was only our company, so we had this excellent guide to ourselves. Of course, if you have been to other wineries, the process is very much the same. But the guide was good, as I said, and you haven’t been to other wineries, you will know the basic facts after a tour here. The castle is beautiful in its own right, the view from the top of the tower is excellent – San Gimignano’s towers can easily be seen in the distance. The guide almost promoted their olive oil more than their wine (“our green gold”), but I must admit that it is really good.

Beautiful castle, fantastic wine and great tour
We booked a wine tour with Janine who was fantastic. Due to COVID situation Tuscany was very quiet so it was just the two of us on the tour. She was really knowledgeable on the history of the family and castle as well as explaining the process for making wine and olive oil. Views from the top of the castle were beautiful. Love their wine, La Historia is one of our favourites but they do a small selection of great wines so really worth the trip to try if you don’t know them Really enjoyed the tour and tasting and would definitely recommend! Cheers

    Best winery tour ever!
I have done Tuscany winery tours in the past, but our visit and tour of the Castello di Poppiano was the best of my experince. Janine, our tour guide, was so much fun! She also taught us more about wine making and olive oil processing than I have learned in all previous tours combined. We learned the proper way to taste test wines. We sampled some wonderful oils. Seeing the castle, along, is worth the time. The views from the top of the torre (tower) were stunning.

A unique history and top-tier products
It is definitely a unique place and Janine is a great tour guide. The wine tasting was an amazing experience (Janine really knows her wines) and their olive oil is probably the best I have ever had. Thank you!

One of the Best Winery Tours
We walked over from Villa le Torri where we were staying. We thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon tour of the winery and olive production facility. Janine was wonderfully passionate about the wines, Vin Santos and especially the olive oil produced here. Highly recommended.

Sopped by for wine... spontaneous mini-tour
The wines are very very good and appropriately priced. No one mentioned that Macchiavelli had stayed in the Castle. I had learned that along the way.

    Winery in a castle!
We toured this winery castle as part of our Tuscany Vespa Tour. The setting is magical and the wine was delicious. I’m not a wine lover so I wasn’t looking forward to this part of our Vespa tour, but this place is very special and I truly enjoyed it! The family that owns the castle also harvests olives for making olive oil, so we got to learn about that fascinating process as well. I recommend touring here.

Amazing views, great hospitality and delicious wines... and olive oil too
Our tour company recommended Castello di Poppiano, and at first, I was reluctant as I was not familiar. My fear was that we would end up at tourist-y type of place. This was not the case at all! We arrived late (sorry) due to a scheduling issue, but our host was very gracious. We toured the castle, the cave and then the tower. All of it was amazing, and just what I was hoping for. The tour was better and better as we went along. The climax was on top of the tower where you could see the whole countryside... all the way to Firenze! 360 degrees of beauty. We tasted the wines and they were nicely paired with charcuterie, cheeses, and of course, the olive oil. Yummm! We ended up heading to the tasting room to try a few more and ended up buying a case... nicely packaged to be safe for our travels and back to the ship. I would recommend a visit and tour, for sure! I will surely be back next time I am in Tuscany.

    Highly recommended
We were fortunate enough to tour the historic and very beautiful Castel Poppiano with the amazing guide Janine. We later discovered that our guide had worked in many capacities for this estate for many years, as she shared her encyclopaedic knowledge and boundless enthusiasm for wines and oils of the Tuscan region. We have toured many wineries in many regions, and somehow Janine was able to share her passion for great oil and excellent wine in such a way that we hung on her every word. We learnt so much about the estate and the special care that is taken by the ancient and royal family who run this lovely winery to produce exceptional products. If you have two hours and you are nearby, please consider meeting Janine and experiencing this wonderful place.

We were staying close to Castle Poppiano and decided to give the wine tasting tour a go and we were not disappointed. Janine hosted the tour and was everything you could wish for in a guide. She was knowledgable, enthusiastic and had a fantastic sense of humour. She was able to explain the tour in English, French and Dutch...amazing.

It was so interesting to learn the history of this beautiful castle and to have the wine making and oil production explained in so much detail. Janine made it a wonderful and educational tour and the views from the top of the castle are spectacular and we even got to watch a thunder storm in the distance...amazing.

At the end of the tour we got to sample some wine and Janine taught us how to taste wines correctly, something we had never before experienced. We also got to taste Janine's love, "green gold", the amazing olive oil from the castle. It was so good we brought a bottle back home with us.

A fantastic experience and a great tour guide. Salute Janine! :)

As you can read in the other reviews, this is a great location to visit and Janine is a super guide. What struck us above all the other comments is the way she explained the way to taste a (sangiovese) chianti wine. An experience we will always cherish, together with her tips on their exceptional olive oil!!
