I didn't know this singular monument; I searched for it at my return home, after I accidentally came across it during a trek in "Crete Senesi" area.
On the web there is enough information on the work of art: I learned so the author's name, the meaning of the different items that make up the sculpture, in a word I inserted the sculpture in the context that makes it understandable.
Here I would just like to recall that the wonderful panorama, enjoyable from the spot where sculpture stands, is simply one of the many ones that you can enjoy in this area.
The area is also called "Accona Desert", according to a definition dating back to the Middle Ages; or more specifically, "Le Crete of Leonina"; that is, the clay soils around the ancient settlement of Leonina; a settlement very close to the "Site Transitoire", which once was a fortified farmhouse owned by the powerful Chigi family, and now is occupied by a country hotel.
The area of "Site Transitoire" and of Leonina can not be reached just by car; as many web pages that mention the monument, seem to understand The area may also be the field of trekking circuits (or even of linear paths using the surrounding railway stations). In fact, encountering the "Site Transitoire" during these treks (as happened to us) is, in my opinion, much more enjoyable, because the spirit of the places will be better understood.
One single warning: planning a walking route, at least in "Leonina" area, is best if based on topographic tourist maps, which show (overall in red colour) the trail paths (the maps are sold by newsagents, stationeries, etc., and of course by the bookshops of nearby cities, such as Siena or Florence). That's because the trails are poorly (or even not at all) signposted on the site; as we sadly found out through our experience.

Stumbled upon this site as it was just up the road from our hotel. It was a surprise to find modern art in the middle of the fields. This is a destination for vistas over the Tuscan hill sides.
