The hike to Cala Luna (about 2 hours) was quite nice. Maybe we didn't time it well because we left at 11 and more or less caught the full midday heat. Once you get there, it's completely overcrowded (at least in high season). People are arriving all the time, boarding tourist boats. It's more or less unbearable in the sun, so it's very difficult to find a place in the shade. Part of our group went back on a boat (€15 for a trip per person to the marina and €20 for a trip to the marina with a shuttle back to the car). The tickets for the boat aren't timed, though, so it gets very full when the boats arrive and lots of people want to get on the boat, but only about 30 people can fit on it, and those who don't fit have to wait an hour until the next boat comes. More or less a tourist trap, I wouldn't go there again.

Absolutely avoid in high season! It’s a disaster (and not only ecological!): not one square mm left to place your towel; incessant comings and goings of boats disembarking 10 to 150 people every half hour; constant noise; there is no longer any crystal clear and calm water from 11 a.m. there are so many people and boats; cigarettes and trash everywhere; the caves taken by storm for a few mm of shade; a bar where the waiters obviously have nothing to do with commerce... this spot has taken a very bad turn, overexploited and sideways. Help ! Fortunately, there is still the hike (2 hours!) to reach Cala Gonone, almost alone…. and that washes your head well!

Unfortunately, it was not a nice experience. My sister and I took the boat. That was a disaster! We had to climb over rocks (is very dangerous) to get into the famous cave, which was of course full of people. There were no toilets and when we wanted to go back to Cala Gonone, many boats came and said again and again that we could not get in, that we had to wait for the other boat. Just to be clear, when we arrived we were told we could leave at 12:10 p.m., that was not the case. If anyone wants to go, it's better not in the summer, it's all very badly organized.
I read that the cave smells like urine, that's right.
The beach was very full of rocks, I recommend water shoes to avoid injury.
I think these visits need to be reduced so that nature remains intact and is a nicer experience for everyone. This is all about money.

I walked from Cala Fuili, 5km walk to Cala Luna, the truth... disappointing! The beach full of people, they kept coming and sailing boats unloading hundreds of people, slamming fuel, dozens of zodiacs up and down, the caves full of people, horrible!
I recommend visiting the Cala in the off-season, so you can see the beauty.
P.S. should ban boat arrivals and the berthing of zodiacs, or they will end up destroying the cove.

To preface: I do not like rocky beaches. I do not like crowded beaches. I do not like odd stenches. This beach marked off all three… immediately red flags….
Alas, here is my absolute humble opinion on Cala Luna Beach in Sardinia:
To start off, this beach is very rocky. The sand
was burning my feet as if it came directly from the
pits of hell. The rocks are slimy and sharp to walk
on, SO BRING WATERSHOES... While i was trying to
enjoy the water, i had various crabs or fish trying to
chomp down on my feet. There are nice caves to
see, except i saw very used toilet paper behind the rocks… i’m not even joking which is the scary part…. It would make sense though since there aren’t any bathrooms nearby, unless you plan on taking the ferry back or hiking 3 hours back to society.
Next, the bathing suits are quite uncontrolled here, from seeing naked people to naked babies, it wasn't what i wanted to see, and i don't care if it's "the european way", they need to take a lesson on class. As i tried to eat some snacks and relax, i turned my head slightly to the right to catch a glimpse of the ocean, when all of a sudden i was startled by a man’s very tight speedo. I get why this bothered me, I am an American- and it’s not accepted to go nude… or close to it in public places there.
The water is probably polluted here from all of the
boats. It does have water if you walk far down the beach. If i came again i wouldn't sit in the caves- it smelt like prosciutto.
Avoid at all costs.
The scenery was pretty but i don’t personally think it was worth the stench of the nearby people.
The water is clear but rocky-bring some shoes. Also the boats leave every three hours… When came time to leave the beach, the boat back to the origin had a limited number of people to fit. Everyone was packed like sardines to give the poor man their tickets. I witnessed a big man slap someone’s hand out of the way so he and his wife could fit on the boat.
Although i have enjoyed my weeks long vacation here in Sardinia, i was utterly disappointed and saddened to have this beach be my last day here. I had to starve my churning stomach for lunch, i felt light headed in the heat… i just wanted a clean, non crowded, sandy, blue watered beach. I’m not a picky person, i just wanted the bare minimum.
I would give this beach a 3.5 if i could, however i think it is best to round to a 3 star for humbling purposes. Venture here if you please, but you were warned.

Did this trip in early October 2024. The weather was very nice and the water was a lovely temperature. We rented a boat, which they very easy thing to do. No need to look for the best deal. All the vendors charge pretty much the same same and they all have kiosks at the harbor in Cala Gonome. Although there are warnings not to get within 100 meters of the shore, many many boats cruise along the cliff edge, including the professional operators. It’s all matter how brave you are. The shore is beautiful and, because most of it is cliffs coming right down to the water, there are only a few beaches in which you could park your boat, other than those that are well known and likely very crowded in the summer. We did some snorkeling in a quiet spot, dropping our anchor about 20 yards offshore. Was well worth it and four hours is plenty of time. We paid €25 for our snorkel and mask at the docs in Cala Gonome. Even in early October, there was a bit of a boat traffic jam at the beach where the large caves are. We decided to just drop anchor offshore and swim in. It was the right decision. Age 68 with my wife and 2 of our children. Parking could be a bit tough in Cala Gonome in high season.

For 30 euros per person you will be taken by boat (20 minutes away) to the beach of Cala Luna. We were allowed to stay there for a maximum of 3 hours to take the boat back. Very touristy. Beautiful beach and beautiful turqoise water, great for swimming in. Absolutely not worth the money. Tip: rent your own boat (zodiac).

I mean, for the beautiful scenery pictures speak thousand words.
I just cannot fathom how is it possible that one of the two only beaches with services on a route were thousand of people pass by each day can have such horrible toilets. You either can go there or to cala sisine. It should not be rocket science to have paid toilets there with someone monitoring and cleaning up once in a while. I will spare you the graphic details, but the only working toilet was a humiliating experience.
Anyway, 4 stars as it would be unfair to ruin the rating because of the services, but they should seriously consider offering a decent service for a fee rather than a free toilet nightmare.

We stayed today in Cala Luna. We made the route on foot starting from Cala Fuili. The route is beautiful, it lasts about two hours and you need to be a little trained to do it, you walk among rocks and vegetation, between shadows and pieces very sunny, you sweat, you admire the wonderful views and you can smell that scent of mulberry and unmistakable Mediterranean scrub. Suitable shoes or hiking boots are needed, we had them and had a great time. We arrive at Cala Luna at about 10:40 after a route that made us long for the blue sea, seen from the top of the path, and the same quiet of the route, almost deserted. We arrive at this beach, beautiful in itself, and we find ourselves in a kind of circle of hell with boats that dock two by two to bring and pick up people (by the hundreds) who arrive and go with a frenzy and a mess that even in Ibiza. The people who get off the boats are many and have little time to photograph, swim and enjoy an inch of the small beach. Result? A confusing and continuous going and going, a din and a shouting that is little suited to an environment that should remain minimally preserved and protected. We resisted a few hours then we resumed the path, which with the heat of the afternoon seemed much longer, greeting that beautiful sea and that wonderful beach with a little pity for her.

This beach is the longest one in this area with some natural caves with access from the beach, so there are some places with shadow which is very good for a day which you spend in sun. The only negative thing are the medium size rocks which are forming the beach. You have to wear properly shoes otherwise it is paint-full for your feet. The water is crystal clear and is becoming deep very close to the shore.

Hi, is it possible to get to Cala Luna directly by car or you have to hike?
Written September 17, 2019
As far as I know there is no posibility to go there by car. There is parking nearby but you still have to hike and in no way it is close - it takes approx. 2 hours of walking.
