Unfortunately unable to wait for the reopening time of 15.30 I had to give up seeing the inside of the Duomo. I just photographed the beautiful nativity scene of which I attach the photos.
But I'm definitely going back.

This was a lovely, calm, peaceful cathedral dating from 1453 wedged in amongst the old town houses. It looked very ordinary from the outside which perhaps is why most tourists did not seem to bother with it when we were there.
However, inside it has some fine decoration and paintings, mostly in the old rennaissance style and an impressive altar.
The outside piazza was also quiet when we went but it did have a good ice cream shop!
Overall, a really nice spot to visit.

The main church of the city is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and it was built in 1453 over an ancient church. The facade is incomplete but you can admire on it the beautiful marble portal made in 1506 by sculptors Gasparo Cairano and Antonio Mangiacavalli
The beautiful internal made in Gothic style is full of great artistic paintings, frescoes and overall the impressive polypthych of gilded wood dating from 1510.
The excellent paintings you can see over altars and on the walls was made by Romanino (1485-1566) , Moretto da Brescia (1498-1554) , Zenone Veronese ( 1484-1542) and Paolo Veneziano ( 1305-1358).
The impressive frescoes was made by Antonio Vassilacchi in 1602

Situated a few metres from the centre of salo it is worth making a detour to visit the duomo, as with many places in Italy it does close over he lunch period .

Lots to see here and the beauty was not many there, whereas I am put off by packed places. It's well worth buying the leaflet (60 cents) and also (first time I'd seen this) putting 2 euros in the slot to illuminate the building because you can see the paintings and frescoes near the door much more clearly.
Surprised at how many (ignorant!) people go around such places with bare shoulders and knees: in some places it's made very clear this is not allowed and this place had a selection of scarves you could borrow to temporarily cover up, to show respect.

Very much worth visiting. This church is not always open, but in the morning and afternoon hours it is. It is very easy to access. And it is of course beautiful!

Surprisingly beautiful church for such a small town. We didn’t expect much but it was worth the visit. The entrance is free of charge

We arrived at the Duomo at 12:15 only to find it was closed from 12 o clock. The photos on here look amazing and it is such a shame that we couldn’t go inside. We wandered around the outside, admiring the building from different sides.

Wandered round this beautiful town while waiting for the MuSa to open at 10am.
Couldn't believe how quiet the Piazza was nor how quiet the Duomo was inside.
Some lovely frescoes and paintings to admire . Perfect way to start the day.

Built in a late gothic style during the 15th century, though the facade remains unfinished. The interior was quite nice with a few relatively important paintings (such as Romanino, Veneziano etc) and some frescoes here and there.

Is it possible for foreigners to get married in the duomo? We are both practicing Catholics and would love to get married in Salo.

I have a couple of foreign friend that got married in the cathedral of Siena, so it is possible to foreign couples to get married in Italy. But I don't know if it is possible in Milano's duomo specifically, as the church is open 24/7, always full of turists. You'll need to contact them and verify personally.
