Amazing hiking even suitable for children. The scenery is breathtaking and it is something that one, is worth to spend some time to see. The path is clean, full of wooden bridges and without obstacles.

we were a 3 generation group of all ages from baby to grandparents. All of us enjoyed the walk very much. The scenery is delightful, running water, shady, beautiful trees. The hike is not difficult so everyone can enjoy it. Even tho it was a hot day we did not suffer from the heat. We walked back on the road taking us directly back to our cars. Recommend highly

Beautiful walking path with a stream running all along it.
Dragonflies flying around, beautiful in metallic blue, lizards moving between the bushes, once you see them and they're gone, lighting is magical, sun rays penetrating the canopied forest, light and shade playing on the leafs and branches, the sound of running water and it all changes slowly as you walk over small bridges over the water... a lovely walk and an adventure to our teenager

Please, please take care on this walk. It is very beautiful ….so beautiful that I was admiring the surroundings last year, and not paying enough attention to my feet. Somehow I slipped, or perhaps a stepping stone gave way, but I ended up falling awkwardly and spent the rest of the holiday in Volos hospital with a broken ankle. So enjoy the lovely surroundings but please tread more carefully than I did!
(I would have given an excellent rating but couldn't say I had a great experience in the circumstances)

In the land of Jason and the Argonauts comes an even more mystical legend, the centaur.
Half man half horse they were roaming free according to local legend in a mountain top village called Pelion.
Volos in Greece is the largest port and town in the area. However if you look towards the back of the town you will see a mountain range reaching up to 700 meters.
Amongst the forests and houses there are still signs of the ancient ones.
Taking the road to Pelion you will wind your way up to the top, passing a statute of the centaurs that used to roam these hills.(photo)
Slowly as you climb the hill your ears feel the pressure change, and you find yourself yawning. Finally at the top you come to the village center, which is only one stop in the Centaur’s route.
There are marks on walls, floors, showing the route you should follow, and this will take you between houses clinging to the mountain, with a cobblestone path between them.
This path will lead you to a almost secret woods behind the village, where you feel like you are in another world, and time. (Photo) It doesn’t take to much to imagine these creatures walking amongst the trees and streams, with the only sound coming from the bubbling water.
If you would like to escape the 21st century, and be part of a time that is beyond imagination, then I highly recommend this walk, who know you may even meet a Centaur?

The trail is a 40 minute walk. Is something unbelievable. Like been in a fairytale. Water, trees, birds... The trail is easy to walk and you can still make rest stops. Overall, is an excellent thing to do in Portaria and is an amazing experience.

Very nice path at the edge of Portaria.
Nice for a 30-40 mins walk. Path is steep at several parts.
We took it uphill up to the road crossing and returned via it to main village road.

It’s a picturesque but tiring ascending. Visitors have to be properly dressed. Avoid descending, there is a local road to return into Portariá.

This path is a minute's walk from the central square. The moment you enter it, you forget you are next to the village. The natural environment is magnificent, as you walk right by a small stream that flows all year round. The path is easy, and it will take a maximum of 20 minutes to get to the end of it. Strongly suggested, especially for those who don't usually go for hiking, to get a dose of pure nature!

Είναι κατάλληλο για σχολική εκδρομή; Χρειάζεται οδηγός;
