Praise the Lord all the nations, praise him all the peoples.
Osio Pattapius was born in Egypt and from a young child he had "a spirit of love and condemnation" (II Timothy, I, 7). That is, a spirit of love and a spirit that reassures, so that he wisely and wisely governs himself, avoiding any moral deviation, preserving purity, but at the same time exemplifying his fellow men. And that proved even more when he grew up.
After dividing his inheritance among the poor, he withdrew to the desert. There he filled his time with prayer, study and charity. To every tired walker passing through his cell, he offered rest and hospitality. But taking advantage of his opportunity he gave discreet and spiritual instructions and advice, useful for the salvation of his soul. Thus, Pattapius’ fame spread rapidly and every day many came to his cell to hear from his lips useful teaching.
After a while, Pattapius went to Constantinople. There, wanting to remain unknown, he chose a silhouette in Vlachernes. But the humble and pure life of Pattapius demanded that he do wonders. So he became known again and died healing sick people.

Right above the Isthmus of Corinth, at an altitude of 800 meters is the Monastery of Saint Patapius, a healer. In the cave of the monastery, on the slope of Mount Gerania, there are magnificent Byzantine frescoes depicting Venerable Patapius, the saintly Byzantine queen of Hypomonia and Venerable Nikon. The abode's playground offers a mesmerizing view of the bays and the Isthmus of Corinth.
A very praying place of grace.

The St. Patapios Monastery is set on a hill (mountain) just above, north from the sea side town of Loutraki. Have in mind this is not the Monastery you see on that same hill from Loutraki beach. The St. Patapios Monastery is further up, secluded in the mountain, hard to spot down from the town.
A 15-20 min narrow winding road drive takes you to a parking lot from where're several flights of steps to the Monastery.
You can visit a nicely decorated small Church, as well the cave with St. Patapios relics.
Best of all are the outstanding views from there - towns of Loutraki and Corinth, the Ionian side entrance to Corinth canal and both, Ionian and Aegean Sea.
It's a nice 2 hours excursion from Loutraki I strongly recommend, both cultural and scenic.

Above Loutraki on the way to Perachora with an amazing view of the Gulf of Corinth. The road leading to the monastery is uphill and with many turns. Arriving there you will encounter stairs with a winding path while there is an alternative, to continue with the car for a little while longer to a point with fewer steps that you will not escape in the end. The small picturesque church and the plateau in front of it are beautiful as well as the interior of the cave with the relics of Osios and the Byzantine frescoes.

This monastery of Saint Patapios of Egypt was founded at the place, where St. Patapios lived and prayed in small cave near the top of Gerani Mountains (early V c. AD) after his long travels through all Mediterranean.
He get here from Korinthos (now Ancient Korinthos), where he preached. He decide to stay at the bottom of this mountains (now north side of Loutraki town) at the place, where St. Ap. Andrew was at late I c. AD (now there is a church in the name of Saint Apostle). Some time after he decided to leave the people living around and climbed to the mountain to live at alone cave as real monk. Some time after his death a monastery was founded at that place. Some people remembered, that St. Patapios had living here, but didn’t know, where he leaved for.
Some time ago one of monks, who was living at that cave, had asking for the igumenos (prior) of this monastery to reconstruct the cave because it was very arrow and low, and the monk was tall and mighty. Father igoumenos had blessed this reconstruction, but after beginning of work the monk had seen a dream: St. Patapios had visited him and said to be care with reconstruction works because beside the wall is the place of rest of His Holy Relics. After parsing the wall His Saint Relics were discovered and identified.
This cave is still here, beside of church, and all Christians can visit here and kneel down to His Holy Relics. There is a church, where you can pray, nearby is a little store with icons, prayer beads and other sacral artifacts. There’re also calendars, books (especially in Greek), and some other souvenirs.
There is a very nice sideview to Korinthian Bay and Loutraki town until Corinthian channel. When the sky is clear, you can view a mountain across the bay – there is Acrokorithos – middle-ages fortress, and at the bottom of it you can see (with binocular or smth. else) Ancient Korinthos – the place, wherefrom St. Patapios had getting here.

If you are keen on immerse yourself in Christianity places, you should visit this site. It has an ancient cave with the remainings of a saint and you could silently feel the old Christians praying secretly when Greece was occupied by the Ottomans (actually the cave ceiling is all burned by the candles lighted). The view is breathtaking and you really can fee connected to the sacred. Go in the morning so less visitors and buy some fig jelly to the lady by the stairs, which is awesome.

You need a car to get up the twisting step climb, but its worth the effort. Services most days so great respect needed. You can visit the body of the Saint and say your prayers in this very peaceful place. Small shop to buy religious gifts where they even offer you a free drink of tea or coffee. The views from the terrace over the Bay of Corinth are spectacular. Dont miss it.
