Amazing beach! We are not beach people (far from it, we avoid beaches as much as possible when on holiday). However, as our cruise docked at Argostoli, we thought that we should take the children for a few hours. A taxi from Argostoli harbour to Makris Gialos beach was only 10 euro and this was money well spent. The water was crystal clear and calm. We felt very safe on the beach and lounged on the soft sand until it was time to head back to Argostoli. If you visit Kephalonia on a cruise ship, this beach is the best!

Having been to half a dozen or so Kefalonian beaches, this one was my favourite. Although it is pretty in it's own right, it doesn't have the amazing views that some of the other beaches have, but it is definitely the most family friendly of them all. There is a lot going on here too with things to do, different watersports on offer, the ocean is pretty mild and not rough, small kids can swim easily, the beach is sandy, so the small kids can build sandcastles all day long, and there are shops and restaurants in the area and on the beach for drinks and food. You can spend the day here without bringing an entire suitcase with you or driving for 1-2 hours to some bug infested beach with no bars and terrible service. Loved it.

This beach has glorious white sand and clear blue water without rocks or pebbles. The sun beds are rented at a reasonable rate of €8 - €12 per pair including umbrella for the day. The sea is shallow enough to stand for a good twenty metres so excellent for frisbee or bat and ball. Sun beds are a decent distance apart so you don’t feel on top of each other.

Staff are friendly and quick with bar service.

We drove here from our accommodation this visit, and there was ample parking just off the road in a wooded area with a 5 minute walk from here down a steep hill to the beach itself.

We’ll be back.

Makri Gialo is THE best beach near Argostoli! Only minutes away from downtown Argostoli, it is extremely convenient. I have been coming to Kefalonia my whole life, as my mother is from there. I can say that this beach is THE BEST and most accessible beach in Kefalonia. The sand is gorgeous. The water is crystal clear. It has Kosta Kosta beach bar, which serves food and drinks to the guests who pay to sit on their chairs. Let me tell you, it's 100% WORTH IT!!!! The servers are so nice and most speak English, so no worries if you don't speak Greek. Getting food and a nice cold drink served to you while you're sitting by the beach is the best feeling in the whole world. I literally go to this beach every day when I visit.

A little note: I would avoid Makri Gialo when the cruise ship is in the port. You will never find a seat if you go when the cruise ship is docked in Argostoli. Also, if you don't want to pay for chairs, there is ample amount of space away from the chairs.

Stopped by for a few hours on our last day, very quiet and peaceful. Lovely golden sand and the sea was crystal clear and very calm great for swimming.
Plenty of free parking and only 2 mins walk down to the beach.
There are 2 beach bars with beds for hire, one bar showed free beds but imagine you may have to buy something for that. We were happy with our towels in the middle plenty of space if you don’t want the beds.

Beach is beautiful, sea clear shallow and warm. Various beach bars and sun beds with enough room for everyone.

One beach bar- blue paradise- on the right as you get onto beach I would avoid. After paying for beds rude owner tells us we can't eat a slice of homemade cake or drink a small bottle of water we had with us as it wasnt bought from her- we paid for the sunbeds ! And it's a free public beach, just step off the beds on to the sand and you can eat/ drink what you like !

We visited today and the recent rain storms had washed the beach away leaving concrete boulders. We watched the rough seas battering the beach from the cliffs above and from the taverna. It's had to believe it's the same place as some of the pictures posted here.

This beach is located near Argostoli in Lassi area. It is a very nice spot to visit when beach bars are not operating and there is plenty space and more relaxed. Its a sandy beach with plenty space but avoid during high season beacuse of many people and luck of parking spaces

This beach is very close to Argostoli and it is a phenomenon. Without any second thought you must swim in these waters.
Crystal clear blue waters and a remarkable transparency. Costa Costa provides three types of sun beds and it is strongly recommended to take the first line which are very comfortable with the best type of sun umbrella. The service is good and the FB choices are little bit overpriced. I guess there is space for improvement( you can add the service button on umbrellas so there will be no delay...)

Nothing to fault at this beach! Sea is beautifully clear, calm and blue. Sand can be quite hot on the feet but you can easily dodge it by stepping in the shade of the parasols. We bought sun beds at the costa costa bar, fully recommend this! Their beds are luxury compared to the others and waiters can serve you food and drink to your sun bed, or you can go up and sit in their bar/cafe. Really friendly service with nice, chatty waiters. Food is amazing here (their Crete salad is great!), you do pay a bit extra but it’s worth it. Cocktails are really tasty too, 9 euros each. Visited this beach multiple times during my stay in Kefalonia and it is my favourite beach out of them all.
