- JednSashaStoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom2,799 contributionsBustling main street and beach areaA very good main street bustling with people at the many bars, restaurants, cafés and shops, everything you need in one street. A thriving area even at the obviously quiet time Crete and every other tourist resort is currently experiencing due to the virus restrictions. Lovely beach and great shops,Visited August 2020Written August 8, 2020

You can hire sunbeds for only 5 euros and order drinks snacks etc. The sea is warm and its a long stretch of sand shallow waters for a long time. Also near to many shops pubs and restaurants. - H_sasBrussels, Belgium75 contributionsStalis beach with young childrenThere are 2 parts of Stalis beach. Right part (direction Malia) is crowded, too commercial and the sea itself is more dangerous for kids because there are edgy stones beneath the sand. Be careful. If you got a little girl make her happy and get her hair decorated (braids) by a nice woman who works every evening next to The Jungle Bar. I think her name is Blagica. She also makes holiday tattoos for kids. Our favourite beach was at the left part of Stalis (direction Hersonissos). More free space, kids may play with a ball or run around without disturbing other people. The sand is ideal to build sandcastles. No stones, just the soft sand and the sea. Stop by for delicious homemade ice-cream at Sweet world. Every day a different flavour to discover. Do not forget to go to Nemo Beach bar: there is mini golf and children love it. Lovely girls Dina and Anastasia will make you and your kids feel at home. The view from the bar is breath-taking. It is very hot in August in Stalis. I would recommend to foresee a long-sleeved swimwear for kids and a good head protection. And a liter of sunscreen)) CheersVisited August 2022Traveled with familyWritten August 19, 2022

It is a lovely traditional soft sand Beach and has a lot going for it. We spent some long days down there and really enjoyed ourselves. Son loungers with a parasol are available for rent at €5 for a complete set with table. These are usually attached to a restaurantAnd they allow you to use their facilities while also offering beach service. There are a couple of lifeguard posts, as well as activity centers offering parasailing, water jets, banana/couch rides, etc. There's a patch of endemic Cretan palms in the eastern part of the beach.Visited June 2022Written June 8, 2022
- Jake AGrantham, United Kingdom2 contributionsStunning Stalis BeachI was nothing short of amazed by this beach I stumbled across whilst staying in the nearby beach of Hersonissos. After our first night in Hersonissos I noticed the beaches were quite rocky and not very big at all. After a quick google search of local beaches I found this and it didn’t disappoint. Golden sand, perfect clear water for as far as you could see and many activities for children and adults to do if they so wish. €3.50 a sunbed with an umbrella all day was a lot cheaper than I anticipated and the nearby bakeries and shops made it a cheap day all in all by the time we’d got food and drinks for the day. A taxi rank was right near the beach aswell so made commuting back to our hotel easy aswell. Would definitely come back here and am planning to do so in the future.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 6, 2023
- David LTruro, United Kingdom23 contributionsVariedStalis has several beached, seperated by small rocky outcrops. The town beaches are always busy, chairs and umbrellas at various prices, dependant on the bars/tavernas adjacent. Some gave free chairs if you used the bar/taverna. For me the best beach was towards Malia,in the Ikarus resort hotel. Chairs go first choice to residents, but you can get one if you want. I found a clear area at the end of the beach with no chairs and just laid on the sand. The water is clean and shallow on all the beaches here, but there can be a bit of undertow on the Eastern beach.Visited September 2022Written October 1, 2022

They take you out to the boat on the back of a jet ski it’s easier than it sounds to get on and off the boat that was the bit I was worried about. Been going to Stalis for 20+ years, great place but a fair bit busier now. The beach is brilliant, not huge by any means but clean and sandy, no shingle, the sea is very good, shallow for a long way out, need to go out at least 50 yards, probably more, for it be deep enough to swim, warm and clean, great for children, but remember the sea is a very powerful thing so always keep your eye on them. Enjoy.

It's a nice beach.
The sea is clean.
The life guards are excellent. When the wind gets up it's choppy on the sea, and they take care that you only swim when you should. but you can always paddle to cool off.
There is a nice spot at the Cactus Beach, where you can rent a sun lounger and chill your day away, and there is a bar up above where you can get some drinks, and enjoy it even more. Prices are ok the service and staff are super.

I am only writing this review on Stalis beach because I think it is important for people to be aware of the dangers. It is not to write a bad review on what is a gorgeous part of Crete and we love the area so much we spend a lot of time there and will be returning for a month next year.
Please please be aware of the rip tides when the waves are good, we witnessed a drowning and was shocked to see someone else getting rescued an hour later, 2 days later another drowning happened. There was 2 life guards walking up and down the beach but they cover such a wide area and we all felt they should be making people more aware of the dangerous rip tides. I appreciate that people say that you can read about this on-line and in the newspapers but lets face it we dont all go looking for drowning incidents on-line and research it before going. There are a lot of drownings in Crete and you need to know this before going into the sea as the area that we could visually see the rip tide was not cordoned off or no-one was alerting people that someone had just drowned, people were going in and getting into trouble. So please please read about it and be careful when there are waves..... yes it is fun and we enjoyed it BUT it is dangerous and Stalis beach has got rip tides.
The beach is gorgeous and plenty to do, I would recommend the area and have not got anything bad to say about it but as I say I am only writing this review on STALIS Beach because I think we need to be a bit more clued up on the sea around there to save some more lives.
Otherwise go to this area and enjoy it as it is lovely and the people are wonderful.

I would think quite a few places will still be open as this is quite a touristy resort and when we went, outside peak season, there was plenty of choice.

Hi, can anyone tell me where along Stalis beach is best for sun beds which aren’t all really close together? Would rather visit where people aren’t all on top of each other. Thanks 🙂

Most of the beach areas near to the hotels or promenades are "under the control" of beachside Tavernas, bars or Hotels so finding a decent place to lay on the beach free of charge is difficult. The sunbeds and sunbrellas can be hired for 3 to 7 euros per person per day. Theres no freebies even if you order food and drinks from the "controlling" bars, taverns or hotels. My tip travel to the outskirts of wherever your staying where the beaches are better bigger and you can find a lovely uncrowded spot free of "unjustified contollers" charges and unhygenic pests offering facial, back or foot massages that do more harm than good to your body parts. Arina beach between Hersonosis and Heraklion is a lovely beach, big, nice sand and great for kids. Otherwise just outside Malia, near the Palace Archeological site is a lovely big beach which is also Free to use and great for kids too. Basically if you've had the misfortune to book a holiday in Hersonosis, Stalis or Malia then the best plan is Hire a car for the duration of your stay to travel to better beaches and far more interesting places than you will find in these 3 places. HAVE A NICE HOLIDAY.

Is there a Spa near Stalis beach .
Themayfamilyathome

We didn't use a spa while we were there, but it's a fairly touristy spot, especially in high season. Most hotels in the area offer a spa and you can use them even if you're staying somewhere else. Also, I'd be surprised if there weren't spa services on offer in some of the local shops in the main town.

Approach to the beach is fairly level and there are mats on the beach. Didn't see wheelchairs for hire, but did see some people on mobility scooters. Try looking online to see if any local hire outlets offer them?
