Elafonisi Full-Day Tour from Chania

3 reviews
After we pick you up in the morning from various locations around Chania, we will follow the green north coast just before Kastelli and finally reach the rock chapel of Agia Sophia through the village of Topolia. After a short visit to this incredibly interesting site, we will proceed to the main attraction of the tour! Elafonisi is located on the southwestern most point of Crete and being an oblong gives the impression of being a separate island as it seems to be divided into two parts by water. On the eastern side of the beach, in front of the lagoon, you will find umbrellas, showers, lifeguards, snack bars and changing rooms. In Elafonisi, you will have plenty of time to explore the area and swim in the crystal clear waters!

Chalikia Beach is a wonderful beach. It is a stonebeach, but there are sunbeds and umbrellas. The water is fantastic swimming-water. Pure and crystal-clear.

I prefer the sandy beach on the other side of town but from time to time it gets very windy whipping up the sand. On these days Chalikia is a welcome refuge. A strange thing happened in the winter of 2019. Very heavy rains brought a large amount of river sand and gravel down onto the beach covering the large stones to the East of town with much finer material and also creating a fresh water lagoon. Whether this is a new stable feature or whether it will revert to its former self remains to be seen.

To me the word "Beach" conjure's up an image of nice golden sand, but this is mainly stones and large pebbles, why anyone would want to lie on them is beyond me, but each to their own taste. If you are in the resort, then make your way to the western side of the headland where the beach is much much better. Sorry but that's my opinion.

This is our neighbourhood beach and it is a ritual to start the day with an early swim.Water is clean and transparent and uncrowded. It has had a recent facelift, now sporting new sea green Sun lounges and refurbished woven rush umbrellas. If like me you take note of the approach of young council employee Janni in his first job , do comment to him.His dedication to his job in collecting payment for the lounges, and presenting the beach so well, and finishing after dark ,is to be commended.

We were here at the beginning of November 2017 and found the water too cold for our liking, but we did see a few people swimming in the very clear water every day. The beach wasn't busy but there usually were a dozen or more sunbathers whenever we came by. What we liked best is that it's perfect for sunbathing with a backdrop of marvellous coastal scenery.
