Fun trip to the top (70 seconds) in one of the steepest Funiculares in the world. There is, however, no real viewing platform at the top. You can get a glimpse down but mostly between trees. I think if you walk a bit up there away from the funiculare, you can probably get a view. There's a restaurant with a great outdoor terrace with a spectacular view so go during opening hours of the restaurant. In winter, you still get a nice view out the restaurant windows.

The Kurwalbahn is a great way to see the city from the top of the mountain. It costs about 2.20 euro each way but there are weekly passes and such available. Not entirely sure of all the options since they were in German on the kiosk screen (located both at the bottom and top of the ride). My friends and I took the Kurwaldbahn to have lunch at the restaurant at the top, Bismarck's. The food there is pretty good and the view from their terrace is one of the best views I experienced on my trip to Germany. If you are in Bad Ems, I highly recommend it.

It is a little train which takes you to the top of the hill and back again. Nice to have it but I am not sure how it could be described as excellent. We had free tickets through the hotel so I d not know if it is good value for money.

I wanted to have a nice view quickly so we went up on the train. When arriving there on the top there was no viewpoint. Nothing to overlook the town. Very dissapointing. There was a restaurant which had a terrace....probably having a nice view but it was closed untill 11 am and there was no way to go on the terrace. Every other place next to the station was forrest and trees. The other viewpoints were i think a long walk...so if u think to go there quickly for the panoramic view better dont waste ur money to go up.
Besides that the traincar is very small. No staff around. All automatically.

It is fully automated, easy to manage even if you don't speak/read German. It goes fairly frequently, so never a long wait. When you get to the top, there are hiking trails, a fabulour view of the Lahn valley in both directions, and a lovely terrace with a restaurant (the view is better than the restaurant, but the latter is still quite acceptable and not expensive, considering the location).

Interesting ride to the top of the hill. Good view from the car, but once you're on the top of the hill, the only available view is from the restaurant.

Only €3.30 for the return trip. It was a little strange getting in the car which is fully automated. Only had to sit for 5 minutes before the doors closed and we moved off. Had a good meal at Bismarks restaurant at the top. Felt very safe in the car and took some great pictures.

Cable car up the mountain in Bad Ems. Lovely restaurant at the top though did not get the name. The view from the cable car and the restaurant is out of this world. Easy to miss the entrance.
