Good if you like some rural history

This recreated 'village' is very interesting if you want to know what life was like in this area of Germany. I learned that it was incredibly tough for most and staggeringly opponent for a few.

If you are not that interested it is better avoided. Certainly do not go if you are mainly interested in visiting the one restaurant (Dorfkrug) on site.

Interesting preservation of Northern Germany's agricultural history
Aug 2018 • Family
Ambitious museum that has moved and rebuilt historic Northwestern German agricultural buildings to one location. Learn about harvesting peat, see a windmill (not just the Dutch had them!), walk in and visit the homes of German farmers of all income levels, from the wealthy to the average farmer. Visit on a nice day as it is all outdoors, plus they have a very nice cafe with outdoor seating. Younger family members may eventually get bored, but will probably tolerate 2 or 3 hours. If you have time, visit the free farm equipment history museum by the entrance and see the huge peat harvester.

Relaxing in the green museum village Cloppenburg!
Jul 2017 • Family
Whenever i'm in Cloppenburg i visit the Museumsdorf with my family and we've enjoyed some great afternoons there. The village is located in the city centre and quite accessible by car. You can just walk around on your own and learn about restored old buildings of the 16th till 19th century but it's much more fun to take part in a tour. The guides are very informative and open to questions. It's like a step-back in time since you can actually lay in the century-old beds and have look in every house.
The younger ones enjoyed the Sunday walking tour in which they could bake bread the old way, make pottery and learn how to write in old German. After our walking tour we stopped at the Dorfkrug to have a great lunch. Before we left the village we bought some of the freshly baked bread to enjoy at home - amazing!

Wow this is a fabulous set up! Lots of old early century homes reconstructed here to set up a typical village scene from farm houses to schools, bakery and church. This was a real please to,wander through and see how life went on in the years bygone . Loved it , if you get a chance you must go. It's written up in both English and German.

We went here with family for a few hours one afternoon and loved it. I loved how they assembled and restored the various buildings from the area to make it feel like you are actually walking through a complete old village. It was fun to tour all the buildings. I really felt as if I had stepped back in time. Our guides were fantastic, and very informative and helpful. Always happy to answer questions. When we were done, we stopped at the on sight restaurant/cafe for pastries and tea and cocoa and it was delicious. So glad we got to experience this wonderful place to see how my ancestors lived in that area
