- Traveler OWashington DC, District of Columbia1,216 contributionsUtah Beach MuseumSolid museum that covers the Utah Beach landings and much of the background to the D-Day beach landings. A number of mementos, equipment, and artifacts to be seen here including a bomber inside the hangar. Well done exhibit which also includes a 10 minute film (runs in French and English) on the Utah Beach landings in 1944. Gift shop at the end. Bathrooms on site and free parking. Also a small eatery just outside that is open depending on the time of year. The museum rests right over a German position which you'll be able to see through the windows towards the end of the tour. Very well done and worth the stop.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 3, 2024
- MunchingWithMaxBelfast, United Kingdom13 contributionsA trip worth taking. A different perspective on the War in EuropeI’m not usually inclined to write reviews but felt I should. Went to this Museum on the last day our holiday when we had the morning to spare. Hadn’t planned on going but our tour guide the previous day had recommended it and the weather held for us, so we gave it a go. I am glad we did. The museum is well laid out and presented with a great audio tour throughout. When you first arrive you seem remnants of the man made port which was previously there. The museum goes into great depth explaining the colossal effort need to achieve such feat. I loved the scaled models and the interactive holograms blended into the view to show you the scale of the operation. It is great to see another perspective on this side of the war, with emphasis usually on the landings and the frontline. It shows the behind the scenes and how they achieved that. A Must see.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 6, 2024
- Jonathan THope, Indiana403 contributionsAuthentic and personalWe visited here as part of our 80th D-Day Anniversary trip. This is a great site and a great museum. The director is a really dedicated individual (his father started it and the family owns Brecourt Manor). It is easy to follow and comprehend the importance of this beach and its significance to the bigger picture. There are many museums one can visit in Normandy--make this is one.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 18, 2024

Our family traveled from the United States to visit the Utah Museum. We called before going and the person we spoke to told us that the museum was open until 6:00 pm. We arrived a little before 5:00 pm yesterday. After parking we entered the museum by 5:00 pm. The man on duty at the ticket counter turned the sign to closed when he saw us approaching. He denied us entry even though we were inside of the museum by 5:00 pm. He said that the ticket office closed at 5:00. When we pointed out that we were there a few minutes before 5:00 he was quite rude. There was no one else in the lobby and only a couple of cars outside. It was obvious that the man at the ticket counter had sent home the other staff early. As we walked back to our car, a number of people walked out with us but headed to the employee parking lot. It was a major disappointment.

An outstanding museum on the coast of Utah beach.
The museum is housed in well appointed buildings with excellent exhibits and use of technology. The super imposing of real war time photos on present day photos of the same location is thought provoking.
Some exhibits really stand out - for example the descriptions from survivors of what it was like to ‘live’ with the Nazis when the invaded.
The museum tells the story of Overlord, explains the planning and the sequence of the attacks.

I think this is the only Utah specific museum so there is a uniqueness there. The Utah story is told very well and the museum has a crop of good artifacts and vehicles. Surrounding area has a number of memorials to those that made the landings possible.

Utah beach is easy to visit as all things to see are within a few hundred meters radius. The central place occupies the D-day museum set in the center in a bunker like edifice.
We found it to be the best one along with the Bayeux museum, very well displayed, easy to navigate and informative.
Likewise the Omaha museum, I advise buying a Utah beach labeled empty jar that you fill later with sand down on the beach - a very original souvenir.

Excellent museum, with ample parking next to the beach. Lots of external memorials. B26 Mitchell Bomber is the main artefact but the museum also holds landing craft, and plenty of information especially about the naval actions. Excellent short film.

A great classic of the landing beaches that should not be missed!
The Utah Beach Museum retraces the maritime landing with lots of testimonies and explanations. The film, at the start of the visit, offers a complete immersion in the night of June 6, 1944 and allows you to understand each stage of the landing.
It is a quality and financially accessible museum which is rich in learning.

We visited Utah Beach during a visit to Normandy. Fortunately the weather was with us. The beach is absolutely beautiful, and only after you visit the museum you'll realise the enormity of what happened and the bravery and sadness. The museum is well worth a visit. Entry is very reasonably priced. The story of the 6th June 1944 is beautifully and sensitively told. An absolute must if you are in the area.

Built inside the former German bunker that once menaced this strategic stretch of Normandy coastline, the Utah Beach Museum ranks as one of Europe's best World War 2 memorials. The museum is incredibly comprehensive in its breadth of coverage, from the ranks of the German defenders to virtually every branch of the Allied forces, while also giving space to civilian resistance efforts. There's a lot to see here, and some pre-selection is well-advised, but you won't find a more complete account of those crucial days anywhere else in Normandy.

I suppose I love the smaller museums and they tend to stick in my memory more. Yes this was good and obviously had a lot of money spent on it. I always enjoy the before and after photos, as in France the landscape hardly changes at all!
It was very informative but I sometimes get word overload and give up! I then just look at the objects which there were plenty of , so that was good.
Interestingly when we got there, they could' only accept cash, fortunately we always carry both. This happened quite bit when we were in France. So take cash.

Hello I don't speak Italian but if you are asking if you can book online I have no idea. I know that you won't be refused admission if you just turn up so booking is not required. Just check beforehand the hours of opening. Enjoy

Buon viaggio

How do I get there from Bayeux using public transportation?
Written August 9, 2015
Hello,
You can take the train from Carentan to go to Bayeux. But there is no bus in Utah Beach to go to Carentan .
Have a good day.

We're hoping to tour the D-Day beaches, is it OK to bring the dog onto the beach at Utah? I know he can't go in the museum.
Thanks.

Buona giornata.
