The beaches here are beautiful and lovely. But it is good to remember that they have a history too. This monument is one of the places to do just that.

Monument remembering the fallen on the first landings in Normandy with statues of Lord Lovat and Commander Kieffer with a flame mounted atop a German cast cupola which were noted as very hard to penetrate
Lord Lovat attacked the Germans with piper playing from the beach towards Pegasus Bridge. Respect

La Flamme sits on top of a dune that overlooks Sword beach. Sword is the last D-Day beach on our Procom tour. We were able to visit the Flame monument and a little time at the beach. Last of the five but definitely not least, definitely worth the stop to complete your d-day pilgrimage.

Having just been around the Free French commando museum, coming across this memorial to D-day was poignant. The thought that, in June 1944, this beach that was full of people enjoying themselves was a bloody hell. Very simple, it reminded you of the courage of the invasion troops.

Wander along the beachfront and you will find monuments scattered in various places remembering the fallen from the D Day Beaches. La Flamme is one of the larger monuments and is well looked after and maintained with lovely gardens. Worth a close up look and is on a hill at the top of the sand dunes.

We stopped by here to pay our respects whilst in the area but also to help with educating our 8 year old about the DDay landings and their importance in the Second World War.

I've just read some of the other reviews and there's nothing I can add. I walked a short way along the new promenade and my mind played tricks on me. Very moving.

Overlooking Sword beach, this is a quality monument to the liberation of France. There is also a statue of Lord Lovet, famous for marching from here to Pegasus bridge with his family piper, Bill Mullins, whilst under fire.

Nice to go if you have plenty of time but not that spectacular, especially if you come from visiting the 1944 landing beaches.
