We found the church in the list of Alsatian Romanesque churches and stopped in Gueberschwihr for lunch. The church has two parts: (a) an old tower that is the only remains of a splendid Romanesque church that was destroyed in the 19th century to make room for (b) a larger neo-Romanesque church using the old bell tower. Surprisingly, the architects of the new 'addition' were very smart in re-using the old tower as model and inspiration, and the ensemble is well balanced and looks almost as a genuine Romanesque building.

We passed Gueberschwihr by accident and were astonished by this church! It is an old roman church build by Burckhart von Geberschweier in the beginning of the 12th century and really worth visiting!

This church is very sober and imposing from the outside. Inside, it is well decorated. The stained glass windows are magnificent, among other things. Don't hesitate to go around and see the old tombs outside.
