The garden is absolutely amazing. All of the orchids are rescued, meaning they were removed from down trees by a licensed conversationalist. Orchids are protected in Costa Rica so it was amazing to be able to see so many varieties and learn about the conservation efforts. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and the tour was well worth it! They even kept it open late for us as our tour ran long due to the good conversation with the guide. Highly recommend, usually takes 45 minutes, and it is right in the middle of downtown so close to other activities and restaurants.

What a cute little garden with more than 100 types of orchids. When we walked in, we were a bit hesitant because it's small and we didn't know what we would do there for a 45 min tour. We even tried to say no guide...b/c we didn't think there was enough there for 45 min. But we were wrong! The guide was exactly what we needed, as well as the magnifying glasses. There were tiny little miniature orchids everywhere you look when you started looking for them. They were hiding under leaves, below boxes, in little logs... it was SOO pretty and interesting. We learned a ton from the guide about different orchids, and other flowers, how they protect themselves, how they grow, how they interact with the various insects in the gardens - we learned about pollination and bees. Our 8 year old was very interested and I felt like an orchid hunter. I recommend it for a peaceful and interesting side trip for a person who likes flowers.

The tour was very informative and the garden has many beautiful plants! The guide knew a lot about orchids and Costa Rican plants, in general. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that the group was a bit large (9-10 people). It might not seem big but the Orchid Garden is actually fairly small and the orchids are often very small so having this size of group made it difficult to hear the guide and see the plant at the same time.

The gardens were most of a collection thrown together in a haphazard way rather than beautifully landscaped. There were some truly beautiful and unusual orchids that we’d never seen anywhere else in the world. Our guide lent us a magnifying glass which was useful because some of the specimens were tiny. He obviously knew a lot and his passion for the plants came across, however there were some questions I asked that he didn’t know the answer to. Also I did find him quite tricky to understand at times although his English was excellent.

We were very lucky that this place was literally on our door step, we were staying at Jaguarundi Lodge about a 5 minute walk away
The orchid garden is quite small but there is plenty to see! We saw maybe 50/55 different orchids on our tour, some of them were so small! They were all fascinating in their own way.
The tour lasts maybe 45 minutes but you can walk around bu yourself after. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us lots of information
The entry fee was about $14 a person and well worth it 👍

This garden was amazing. For the small entrance fee, you receive a magnifying glass to use in the garden, a guided tour (ours ended up private and was well over 45 minutes!), and unlimited time to roam around the garden at your leisure.
Eric was phenomenal! He had wonderful knowledge and was very fun. He always said how he had more surprises, and he was always right. It was so informative and beautiful.
This is a must go for your Monteverde trip!

I was shocked at how expensive this attraction was considering how underwhelming the orchid gardens were. They charged $14 each for literally a 10 minute stroll through some subpar orchid gardens. They had one greenhouse with several different larger displays but nothing terribly impressive. We needed to kill some time before lunch so we stopped by. Not worth the money in my opinion. Spend it on a guided tour of Curi Cancha or the cloud forest instead.

We found this little Oasis while walking through town, and enjoyed the little garden a great deal. The guide is necessary as you could easily overlook the miniature orchids that he pointed out. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The little shop has a few lovely prints and some other art at a reasonable price. It’s well worth the visit, especially if you are a garden lover!

One of our favorite activities in Monteverde. We learned so much from our excellent guide and really enjoyed looking at the remarkable range of orchids. Yes, we got magnifying glasses and that was really fun.
After visiting here, I realized how many orchids we had encountered on our forest walks but had no idea.
If you like science, or plants, or how nature works, then this place will likely interest you. If you want to see a bunch of showy orchids, then go to Southeast Asia or your local florist.
Also, the spices (especially the pepper) and coffee on sale in the gift show is excellent.

This is a guided tour of a nice sized garden full of orchids and other flowering plants. The guide pointed out all kinds of orchids - I think there were something like 100+ different species in bloom. She taught about orchid biology and had lots of interesting tidbits to point out. I think the only downside was that a group of 10 is too large - not everyone could see or hear at the same time.
