The presentation about permaculture was very interesting and informative. I personally have worked on multiple permaculture farms, and some people in my group have no experience farming, but the presentation was still engaging for people with all levels of experience and everyone learned something new. You could tell that the owners and workers are very knowledgeable, passionate, and hardworking. This was reflected not only in the things they said in the presentation, but could be seen in the landscape. As someone who works with similar farming methods, I can say that creating a landscape like Valle Escondido is a monumental task. It was inspiring to see from this perspective, for the fact that it is designed to be beautiful and peaceful as well as just functional, and for the ideals of sustainability behind it. I would recommend that everyone who visits Monteverde tours this location.

Wonderful example of how to be regenerative in a way that allocates finance to maintain this cycle of life. The person who guided us was so informative and they did a thorough job of teaching us about their way of permaculture. I Loved the experience and loved the insight of the guide :) definitely recommend anyone who comes to Monteverde to inform themselves about evolving their relationship with the land.

If you're staying at Valle Escondido, DEFINITELY take the Permaculture tour. Walking around the hotel campus itself is pretty amazing, but when you learn about all of the details both large and small of this operation, it gave me a whole new appreciation for what they're doing. Our guide was super knowledgable and even asks us specific details of our living space to try to suggest ideas of how we, too, can implement practices of permaculture! He offered suggestions for books to read, gave us specific didactic information around the essence and principles of permaculture, and we walked around various sites of the hotel property.
It's a really cool experience!

For those interested in the eco part of ecotourism, this is an excellent introduction to not just sustainable farming but to all aspects of sustainable living. As we were already staying at Valle Escondido (Hidden Valley), it was very convenient to do the tour at 9am after breakfast. It was clear that Jonah loves managing the land as much or even more than he does running the inn. While the beginning of the tour is mostly theory, you will see practical applications of just about everything that is introduced.
Those staying on site will especially appreciate the tour as it gives you a sense of the inner workings of the property. You will find out where your waste water goes, how your shower is heated, and where your eggs at breakfast come from. You will also see areas that you might not have encountered while hiking along the trails onsite, including coffee plants and a tilapia pond. Even if you are not staying at the inn, the tour is highly recommended to gain an appreciation for environmental stewardship.

Our family loved the Jonah's permaculture tour. He's extremely knowledgeable, friendly and opened our eyes to the power of permacutlure in our everyday lives. It was an absolute blast to get to know the farm and the great work they're doing.
As a lawyer with young kids, it was great to have them exposed to such experiences.

My partner and I were amazed at Jonah’s knowledge, method of explaining permaculture and the superb work he is doing !! I learned a lot and plan to continue the teachings! I highly recommend the tour to anyone who cares about the earth, sustainable farming, and serving other. The principles and methods can be applied in any culture or land around the world! Jonah practices what he teaches. He is a gifted teacher, entrepreneur, and lover of the land! If you are anywhere near Monteverde.. go eat, visit, stay, and enjoy the tours offered!!!Ellen from Massachusetts a retired teacher, horticultural therapist and gardener

Inspiring and highly informative tour on permaculture. I teach and study food security issues and learn so much every time I go on this tour Im captivated by the innovative and practical solutions they are implementing to grow food in balance with the beautiful Monteverde ecosystem. I leave with the feeing we can make this sustainable transition happen. And I have practical ideas of what to do in my own life and travels to contribute!

Highly recommend this tour to everybody! I don’t garden much (like most US citizens) and this tour offered a lot of practical and inspirational information. The philosophy of permaculture opened my eyes and touched my heart. I learned its principles and how they can be applied to growing food or to my occupation as a realtor.
Our time with Jonah was mind expanding and made me more aware of my place in the world and my responsibility to be more sustainable. I plan to apply these principles more in life.
Besides all that, it was really fun! Who doesn’t like walking around and seeing cool inventions and beautiful gardens. We took ourselves out for a fantastic meal at the on-site restaurant at the end, all harvested here. ¡Pura Vida!

An amazing entree into permaculture. I was in charge of planning the honey moon and as a permaculture nerd I HAD to plan a couple of nights stay at Monteverde Inn Valle Escondido. I was not disappointed. Jonah, the proprietor, was our teacher and guide. His passion for permaculture was clear and it showed in the systems that were implemented throughout the property. As a person who was familiar with permaculture, I found the tour enlightening and engaging. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to leave the world a better place than they found it.

We stayed at the Monteverde Inn for 4 nights. It wasn’t until the last day unfortunately that we got to take the Permaculture tour. I say unfortunately because until you take the “tour”, you don’t understand what this place is all about. It’s similar to watching a play and enjoying it, but then you get a chance to go backstage, talk to the playwright, the actors, the director, observe the sets and props and suddenly the passion , inspiration, and hard work behind the play make everything brilliantly clear. The concept behind the Monteverde Inn at Valle Escondido is permaculture design...caring for the Earth, others, and sharing. Here they’re making it work, sometimes with trial and error as was pointed out, but that’s part of the process. I could review the concepts behind the design of the space at the inn, the compost systems, the plantings, the capturing of grey water, but it would take too long. It’s such an inspiring pleasure, in view of the challenges facing our planet, to see responsibility put into action. You should come and stay at this inn, a little bit of heaven, and you must take advantage of this experience.

An unique place in Monteverde!!
close from main town but inside huge forest, amazing Pacific gulf views, learned a lot from my visit there! totally worth going over there! the project has a sustainable hotel-restaurant-farm- where you can walk among trails as well, book private guided tours or permaculture design courses, or night walks. Lots of things to do here!!!
