Don't let them drive anywhere without the meter being activated. Definitely don't go through the barrier if you are not happy, keep hold of your ticket as it has the driver and vehicle details and email address to complain st. Our first taxi driver wanted 500baht plus addition luggage charges and tolls, initially ignoring all our requests, we got out (at the barrier)unloaded our bags, got a new ticket from the machine.
Second driver didn't try to scam us and got a healthy tip as per our usual practice. Taxi service is cheap to the city and we don't mind tipping well.
Some drivers will try to take a long route, but Google maps and a few words of Thai all helps to keep them on track. We avoid using the Pink taxis as everyone we have used over the years has tried to rip us off.

I’ve heard many people complain about the taxis here, & I don’t understand why.. I’ve been here many times and I’ve never had a problem. Simply go downstairs and
Exit at airport, go to the talk Que, and get a ticket.. it will
Have n number that corresponds to the numbered parking spot that your taxi is located in..Then simply go to the taxi and tell the driver where you want to go... if the driver dose t speak your native language, simply use google translate. You will pay the amount on the meter... remember to exchange some currency at one of the booths before you exit the airport.. the drivers are always nice and the gate is very reasonable..

Thailand is a tourist friendly Nation. Tourist services are particularly of high quality, customer friendly and very moderately priced. There are plenty of options for commuting at the Suvarnabhumi Airport viz Public Taxi, Limousine, Airport Rail Link, Car Rental, Shuttle Bus, Public Bus, prebooked taxis to on arrival private taxi booking on tourist service both and also the Bangkok Airport Public Taxi Service, Public taxi stand is located on the Ground Level. As per the law the Public taxis serving Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport must be less than 5 years old and the drivers must be certified by the airport.

This is a great service with good safe taxi drivers. You can barter the fair but mostly they are set so you know you won't get ripped off. Be aware that busy times will mean you pay more because the traffic is heavy.

They have a fleet of Toyota camry and Mercedes Benz. Not sure about others. The Toyota option is about 3 a the price of a normal cab but still about half of what the luxury hotels offer. The Mercedes is about four times the normal can price. If you have a long commute into the city during heavy traffic periods I feel the cost is worth the additional comfort.

Arrived at BKK about 9.00pm and went straight to the Taxi Rank to get my Taxi to Rayong (2 hours away). After waiting in the queue for about 10 minutes, we were on our way. Meter running, so all good. Departing the terminal, it’s pouring rain and obviously dark, visibility was poor.
I have done this trip many times, so travelling down to Rayong on the Motorway 7, was / is quite relaxing and stress free.
Not this time, my Driver was falling asleep and his speed was dropping to 80kph whereas all the traffic was passing us doing 100 - 120kph, I asked him to pull over as I was thirsty. He said he would get a drink too, but when he came back, I was standing at the drivers door and suggested I would drive, I jumped in the drivers seat and he sat in the passenger side. We got there safely.
The reason I am advising you of this story, is some of the Taxi drivers are not as good as the majority of Taxi drivers, be watchful and don’t be afraid to, tactfully, ask to pull over and rest. It’s imperative to get to your destination safe. Hope this helps

Before arriving I had heard mixed reviews about the airport taxi services, but I can safely say that mine and Margaret's experience was overwhelmingly positive. I must stress that I speak on behalf of both of us, as Margaret was far too inebriated to notice. Goodness knows why one would choose to drink copious amounts of duty free alcohol on a short international flight, but I have long given up trying to understand Margaret's actions.
All of this aside, I found the taxi driver to be quite chatty and very charming. Niran (the taxi driver) was very helpful in suggesting fun and exciting experiences we could try. His driving was safe but very efficient. Thank you Niran!

Airport taxi, its nice and organized very well. But problem arise when you get inside the taxi. It happened 2 times. When we get big taxi in Suvarnabhumi airport, located at 1st floor i think, in the public taxi line. I do not understand why when we get inside the taxi they will say "how much you want to pay me". When we say "please use meter", they will say "no! You choose a special taxi van". How come it is become special, in a taxi line, it is not stated in the choices. You can choose either regular taxi or big taxi. In airport taxi line, its clear that you can read like this " you pay the amount in meter plus 50 baht". I cant understand why some big taxi saying they will not use meter because we choose special. Sometimes they are scary. They will get angry, become rude and will argue. If we dont have a big luggage and some baby items, I rather choose to ride train than taxi.

We went to top floor of Bangkok airport to departures, went outside & got a taxi that was dropping off people. This avoided lining up for a taxi downstairs & didn't have to pay for a taxi voucher from machine. Always ask for the meter on, if they say it's broken just get another taxi.
